The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Since we can all agree that the M4 carbine or clones are the best "In case of Zombies" weapons, let's discuss something not so obvious. What is the best zombie movie? Yep. Harder than you think.

28 days later
28 weeks later
I am legend
Return of the living dead - Punk rock lives!!!!!!!
Shawn of the dead
Omega Man

I honestly don't know.

Don't try to add a bullpup to the best zombie gun just to piss me off. You guys on the other side of the pond have several of the best movies.

I honestly think the best zombie movie is the original Dawn of the Dead, followed very closely by Day of the Dead.

Shaun of the Dead is obviously a play on the other zombie movies....but I still love it.

To be honest though......I can't recall which is which in the '...of the dead' movies.
I like them all :)

Im pretty fond of the Resident Evil series and the best Zombie Gun depends on the situation:

Ranged - Barrett 50 Cal (No such thing as over kill)
Melee range : 12 guage riot gun
Out of bullets for the big guns: 44 Mag (yes I know its a big gun too)

One lone pistol bullet in your pocket (Yup thats what its for)

Knives are pointless in this situation...if you are down to the knife it means you had a hole in your bullet pocket.

The 4 movies that most influenced me as a teenager and adult.

Alien
Aliens
The Thing

and Return of the Living Dead... (gets my zombie vote)

Best Zombie gun... Well I would say Spas 12 but takes too long to reload. You need quick reloads. So I'll say Calico 9mm as long as you have more than 3 or 4 of the 50 round drums. BUT if you had a Spas 12 converted to use 15 round magazines... then it would get my vote.

Dawn of the Dead *Original*

I'm partial they were both filmed around me, I actually go the mall Dawn was filmed in fairly often just to walk around and drool in the collectables store.

For me it has to be the Evil Dead Trilogy, Bad Taste and Brain Dead. They are just totally loco movies with things going from insane to FUBAR in a mater of moments. So the best weapons for a Zombie Apocalypse would have to be Chainsaws and Boomsticks! 8)
I preferred the I am Legend novel over the movie. Will Smith was good but they kinda spoiled it for me with that happy ending.

Did we see the same "I am Legend"?

Resident evils - oops, my mistake.

For those of you who missed ROLD...

I'm dissapointed about some of the Zombie gun posts.
1. High capacity magazines
2. Fast reload
3. Distance and CQB
4. Common ammo
5. lightweight
6. Low recoil
7. reliable

See normally I would just stick with the Calico, but since my Spas 12 has the magazine mod (it takes 5.56 right? LOL).. Yea... well you get the idea..

for me around here on LI, the best thign i can get would be .38 lever action carbine. now here is why.

1. .38 is a common calibre, so i can find ammo some what consistantly.

2. most hunting stores and even walmarts have them behind the counter.

3. its light and compact

4. accurate and has good distance for a suburban battle field

5. if i can find .38 revolver they can share ammo (dont neeed to carry two types.

Calico! Calico 9mm rifle with a couple hundred round mags... *drool*

If money was no problem, probably an H&K MP5 variant, perhaps an SD so you don't give yourself away so soon.

Otherwise probably an AR variant with a suppressor.

As far as the movies... The RE 1 & 2 for sure.

28 Days later doesn't really count, as they weren't really zombies... but the end result is the same I guess.

The new Dawn of the Dead creeped me out big time. Nothing like getting away in a boat... only to sail to a "get away" island... populated by zombies! Hosed!

What about tactical/protective gear in case of zombies?
Movie versions or real world.

I liked the full body armor suits in Doomsday (not a zombie movie again, but comparable as it was a virus outbreak).

Yes, we did see the same movie.
I don't want to give anything away about the book for those who haven't or will read it.
However, compared to the book, the movie has a happy ending and he becomes a legend for a whole different set of reasons.

My picks for Anti-Zombie guns.

Long Range: I don't do long range.

Medium Range: M4 would work well, get high capacity mags. If possible an M60E3!

Close Range: 12 gauge pump-action shotgun. Actual model doesn't matter, although a SPAS-12 modded for mags would be nice. Set to semi-automatic, and clear a path! .50 AE Desert Eagle for sidearm.

Melee: yes, knives. just because I'm like that. Besides, doesn't the character in the RE movies use knives? And my personal favorite bad@$$, Riddick, can kill tons of just about anything with knives. Save guns for large groups, use knives for 1-4/5 at a time. Because let's face it, zombies (as in rising from the grave zombies) aren't fast moving. their muscles are rotted, so you can take some time. Even fast zombies, you could probably take on 2-3 at a time; just be quick about it  .

I think we are all missing one thing here....

When it comes down to it.....who will be near their "Zombie Guns" if and when the Zombie attack??

The best "Zombie Gun" will be the first one you can get your hands on until you manage to get to your "Chosen Zombie Killers"!!

and I've always got a knife (or two) on me somewhere... of course, so does my stepmom, but that's a different story. she collects fancy knives for display, I collect knives for... well, let's just say it's a different reason altogether.

Some of you pick things like the Barret .50... don't you think investing in such an "exotic" weapons system might be a poor idea?

It's not like you can sneak into the local Sheels Sporting Goods (or Walmart) after the zombies come and steal yourself some .50 cal. when you run low. :)

If you're into sniping, maybe something in a .308? Ammo is pretty common. If you go old school and think deer hunting, a .30-30 lever action with scope would work. My mom had a Marlin lever action rifle that was real nice. Shot like a .22 and had almost no recoil.

Desert Eagle... 8 rounds of .50 (or .357 or .44). Plus it weighs a ton. Not for me thanks. :) .40 S&W or a double stack 1911 variant. Maybe even a Glock. Smaller, lighter weight, high ammo capacity.

Remember, all you have to do is shoot 'em in the head. Of course, if you miss a perfect head shot... that's where the high ammo capacity comes in. :)

For armor, I was thinking something like a leather motorcycle suit wth the built in armor. Add a strong pair of high top, thick leather boots so you don't get bit on the ankle. Armored full finger leather gloves that extend over the wrists (again, keeping skin hidden).

Finally, a helmet of some sort. If you went with a motorcycle helm that would work with mods to increase hearing and possibly vision.

Since all it takes is a single bite on the arm to get infected, long sleeves are a must. Hopefully you don't live in Atlanta though. Full leather suit/jacket in the summer? It's like wearing an oven. :)

having just watched all 3 RE film over the weekend, the question should be.... Stay in town or leave... stay , you have food, water, shelter etc... but a city for of Zombies.. :x Leave and go to the countryside, you have to start from scratch, find everything you need.. :(

Weapons wise... any 5.56mm or 9mm as basic weapons.. after all it is the standard issue of Police and Military, raid a army base and unlimted supply of weapons and Ammo..
A good shotgun for close quarters....
