Why?
I guess you were lucky and missed the "recently" made Star Wars movies. I suppose you can't really blame her completely though. I guess she did the best with what she was given, but still.

The best she was given. Padme is a headcase. I've posted this elsewhere and it frames my opinion of the prequels...
Lucas used the term 'love story' to describe what cannot be described by anyone not on medication. Forget that there are few, if any real love building moments between Padme and Anakin...almost...well...ever! Star Wars didn't so much die for me, as it went totally bat$#!+ insane.
Anakin: "Padme..."
Padme: "What's wrong?"
Anakin: "Padme. I killed a whole village of sandpeople for the death of my mom."
Padme: "You killed some of the men of the village...?"
Anakin: "Um...no. I killed everyone."
Padme: "Wait. You killed the men who actually hurt your mother."
Anakin: "No, no. I killed EVERYONE."
Padme: "You killed all the men...? Even the ones who didn't directly hurt you mother."
Anakin: "All of the men...and everyone else."
Padme: "Your mom...an innocent women...was killed by a few sandpeople, soooo...you killed all of their innocent women?"
Anakin: "Well...yes. And the kids."
Padme: "You killed all the kids!?"
Anakin: "Yes."
Padme: "Teens?"
Anakin: "Yes."
Padme: "Toddlers?"
Anakin: "Yes."
Padme: "And...babies?"
Anakin: "Yes."
Padme: "..."
Anakin: "I was upset."
Padme. "Yeah I get that. So...you just came from a village of sandpeople...where you committed an act of wholesale slaughter? Not just a small rage involving one or two people. You cut down men and women again and again and again in mass genocide? Then you turned on the children and cut them down, never once giving pause to assess the carnage and unchecked horror of hacking up an entire village with a sword? Are you sure you didn't bomb the site from high altitude where you could just push a button and fire on a faceless target?"
Anakin: "Nope. I stood face to face with men and women and cut them down as they ran about in terror, screaming and fleeing as they tried to save their children and loved ones. In fact, I had to be pretty quick about it, so that no one would get away, so a lot of them took it in the back. Especially the children. At least those who didn't throw up their hands in shock and plead for mercy as I rushed them."
Padme: "So a lot of them would have been unarmed."
Anakin: "Yes."
Padme: "You need a hug, huh?"
Anakin: "I do, yes."
Padme: "I love you."
Anakin: "Ben never lets me do anything."
Not long after...
Anakin: "Padme..."
Padme: "Really? Again."
Anakin: "Well...yes...but this time it was an entire order of peacekeeping jedi, and at the same time, the betrayal of the entire galaxy."
Padme: "Please tell me that you didn't kill the..."
Anakin: "...Children? Yes...but to be fair, they had swords."
Padme: "These would be the children..."
Anakin: "Well, to be fair, they weren't children. They were younglings."
Padme: "So...they were at least 6 or 7."
Anakin: "Yeah."
Padme: "I love you."
Anakin: "And Ben is all pissed or something."
