The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Breadboard/Stripboard or similar.

Just changed the link above, slightly different model number, but pretty much the same though.
RS doesn't have the correct one linked on their site, they have the pdf for the 3 digit ones.

Cheers Martin, I noticed that too so i contacted them and they emailed me the correct PDF (the two digit one) I also reported it as an error on their site.

Okay, here's another question for you all:

My Heat Sink and Barrel support are separate items, but I think it would be much better (and add more support to the already flimsy grenade launcher) if I swapped them out for a single piece, not to mention easier to fix to the GL.

Where do I get one (in the UK preferably, but happy to order from anywhere)? I just had a quick look through the "Base PX" section and did a search for "heat" but nothing came back...

Thanks in advance!

:( Stumbled at the first hurdle!

I'm too much of a n00b to post in there at the moment!

Not sure how long I need to have been around but I'll bet it's longer than a week! hahahaha! I'll have to give the RPF a go!

I fully understand why there are rules like that but it does make it difficult for (genuine) new people like me! Ho hum...

Is there an echo on the internet? ;)

Thanks mate... I've just PM'd him to see if he can help me!

Yes there is an echo. I also read the stuff on RPF for non-Aliens bits.
However, for knowledge of all things Alien, there are none better than the awesome folks you find here!!

As far as waiting for your PX access, spend the time browsing the archives and stuff here.
All the questions you could possibly have are (almost certainly) answered therein. Including the 8-hole vs 10-hole barrel vent debate.

I have a 10-hole, myself.

Yeah thanks man, I actually spent ages browsing the archives LONG before joining (mostly looking for a definitive answer to the Olive Drab vs Bess brown debate)... I was all like "I want to go "screen accurate" as much as I can, but then decided to go with the Olive paint because in my opinion it looks cooler! I digress...

I don't make a habit of signing up to forums I don't intend visiting regularly, it's tricky enough keeping track of one place let alone dozens, but I've been made nice and welcome here, lots and LOTS of friendly feedback, nice to see plenty of UK folks and everyone has been super helpful so I plan on sticking around. Plus if I disappear after my PR is complete, who's gonna egg me on to get the rest of the uniform? Certainly NOT my girlfriend. She already thinks my rifle kit only cost me £50 off a guy on ebay! Hahahahaha! I cant be doing with the whole "£320!!!! And your still have to build it yourself? That's a month's mortgage, or a week's holiday... blah blah blah" issues that come with costuming. A mate of mine started out with an SDS Storm Trooper Costume, cost him a small fortune, then he started work on a Rocketeer, then a "Panther" batman before persuading me to join him in doing a Ghostbuster's costume... when I started he said "Ahhh... wont be long til you are telling Mrs Cheex that everything you bought was 'twenty quid off ebay' and he's right! Hahahahaha!

Anyway, I probably should have posted all that over in the "introduce yourself thread" but thanks for the warm welcome, and I feel at home already!

That's the whole point of the PX limitation, chap.
It discourages the one-post-wonders who open with, "I want everything. Tell me where I get it all at once" and are never seen again.

We are a community and we welcome anyone who wants to be a part of it. There's a lot of info which is shared freely and joining in wherever you can only benefits the group as a whole.

I too am going OD. I don't like Brown Bess.
And as for Her Ladyship - How much does she spend on clothes, shoes and handbags? :D

Cool... Olive drab does look more "military"!

Dunno if I'm allowed to post this here but I'm fairly sure it came from these boards in the first place (before I signed up) but this is the paint I was gonna go for!

After a quick PM to Matsu and a conversation with a local steel fabricator I think I have a solution for my barrel vent/support issue. Details tomorrow after a trip to the workshop! *fingers crossed*

I believe Matsuo is in the pre-planning stage for another run of stocks and barrel vents.

I PM'd him after making my post on here AND on the RPF. I got a reply yesterday and he gave no indication of this. :?

Fortunately my solution appears to be doable, I have been to speak to an old friend who's going to tig-weld me a plate on to the end of my existing barren support (16 guage, same as the support) and then I'll fix the barrel vent down THROUGH this plate and in to the grenade launcher. Only downside is it makes the vent stick up 1.5mm higher than it should but hopefully it wont be too noticeable.

Image

I made it 90mm long which means it will end just before the profile on the GL changes, hopefully it will work well AND look awesome!

You could weld the strip to the top surface of the bottom of both the triangle and vent? Then it won't be raised plus once painted and with the barrel in place not really obvious. You could also have a spacer piece milled between the two.

Good thinking! My part is already in the shop and waiting to be picked up (not today tho as I have a dentist appointment) If it doesn't look right when it's assembled then I can always do that as a retro-fit because all I'll have to do is cut down the new piece that was welded on and add a longer plate to the top like your drawing. Thanks for the idea mate!

My awesome black-faced LED counter arrived today.

There is a guy who works in our building (different company) who's an electronics ninja! I nipped up to pick his brains about resistances and what-have you and explained what I'm trying to do and he was super keen to help and genuinely interested, then started pulling components out of his store cupboard and saying "you'll need this and that and that and one of these and some solder a bit of this"

Image

Then said "I'm a bit pushed for time today but if you pop back and see me tomorrow after 4pm I'll show you how to put it all together!" so that's really cool! It's not what you know huh?

Also I ordered a few bits today ready for the final assembly (M3 bolts for fixing the stock in place etc) before painting but while I'm waiting for them to arrive I'll prep the parts and probably give them a coat of primer (Halfords grey?)

Is there anything I should know drilling and tapping resin? I noticed a lot of the components on the matsu kit are drilled and tapped.

As yours is aluminium powdered resin I would go over it with 1200grit to bring up the shine, then when paintied you can sand back to the this on edges etc. for weathering purposes.

Note, resin dust esp. with ally powder in it can be unpleasant, if you dry sand have vac on standy.

Parts are coming together nicely... hoping to have everything for a "dry" assembly this time next week but while I'm waiting for parts to arrive I'm gonna give everything a couple of coats of undercoat!

Image

Thanks for the tip with the sanding, I had already given it a rub down with wire wool (super fine) and it came up super shiny. I am not sure if I want to weather it or not to be honest, I'll probably wait and see how it looks once it's painted and put together.
