The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I have a resin 870 that I got from GEM years ago (a Wolvster casting I believe?) that is made in two seperate hollow halves with the trigger group/loading ramp and bolt seperate pieces. I am trying to sand it down (not a great casting where the halves join) and test fit it into my SPAS cage.
So far it is way too wide but that may be that the castings are not down to the correct width yet.

Could someone with a real 870 give me some accurate width measurements across the front and back of the reciever so I can adjust the parts to the right size? I am certain that some needs to come off the mating faces as the front end shows a noticable flare when taped together.

I don't have a barrel either so some accurate measurements of the 870 barrell would help as well, max width where it meets the reciever, where the taper starts, overall length and minimum width at cut end. I would ask Matt these questions directly but I am sure he has getting better to be concerned about.

Cheers

Tony

Need it in decimal inches or mm's?

I can't really work, bout all I can do is shuffle about measuring things. :)

Cheers Matt, mm would be awesome. I just want to sand this thing down to the correct dimensions then make it fit the SPAS cage. If the importation thing was not an issue I would jump all over a couple of your resin grenade launchers but sadly not an option...:(

Any dimensions you can get would be good, I can trust you to be accurate to the needed degree.

Cheers mate.

Looks like the outside width of the receiver is around 34mm it goes between 34 and 33.85

The barrel at the chamber where it slides into the receiver is 31.5 mm ...at the muzzle it's 23.5mm... the bore is 18.5mm

length of the barrel is up to debate as i've seen them vary from gun to gun I usually chop mine at about 165 from the reciever, between 160-165 depending on my mood. that length is with the barrel inserted into the receiver from the receiver to the muzzle.

the mag tube is 1 inch od about 25.35mm

Need anything else?

Half a dozen made it in so far, the klit breaks down to resemble anything but a firearm.

OK, so I made a 34 mm gauge out of sheet alloy and yes the resin cast is too wide at the front, so I will need to sand the mating halves at that point.

What is strange is the gauge will not fit in the narrowest point of the (genuine steel) SPAS cage. The cage is the one I got off the Relics PR and at the rear it was fixed to the wood with four screws, two a side. Is it possible the cage is slightly squashed at that point?

When inserting the 870 into a SPAS cage, is it normal to slide it in from the front with the GL block allready attached to the barrel and mag tube or is it slid in from the back and the block attached afterwards?

Sorry about the beginner assembly questions but this is my first PR build and I want to get it right.

Cheers

My cages are mostly just over 33mm, ther's enough flex in em for a deac 870 tho. Poss yours has been squashed in slightly. The 870 goes in from the rear due to the trigger parts (generally) getting in the way and front block on after.

Sidewinder says true things.

You have to slide the 870 minus the front block, in from the back of the spas. Yes it will 'drag' but it will fit.

The spas flexes and bends easily once you cut the web on the lower rear section to accomodate the trigger group.

I did this very simplistic diagram for some one to show the major disassembly points. Somewhat applicable here.

Thanks guys, that makes sense as any metal taken out will increase the flexability of the cage and so far mine has only the eject port hole rough cut out.

What I will do is bring the resin 870 down to the 34, maybe even take it a fraction underwidth and sit down and do all the cuts on the SPAS cage.
Maybe even spend some time sanding and smoothing the inside area of the SPAS to ease assembly.
Can't hurt!;)

Cheers for the advice, it certainly won't be the last time I ask....:D

Cheers

No worries Tony, I've done so many I can cut a spas cage down from memory. I kind of take it for granted. I have to remember how daunting it must be to someone who's never cut one, specially with what the things are going for now days.
