The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Fair one. It simply makes sense however that real world PR furniture would be OD.

Brown? ;) :P

You would be wrong. Take a look at real world weapons. Not many are OD or offer factory OD parts. However, many are FDE (flat dark earth), a dark brown color these days. The pulse rifle doesn't always look OD in the film anyway, look at the lesson Hicks gives Ripley. That does not look green at all. I posted a bunch of hi-def pics in another thread on the RPF, but it won't let me post them here because they're too large.

If anything in the film they look like a slightly brown tinted dark grey color. I dare you to screen capture a pic and pull it up in a photoshop type program and "select" the various colors on the Pulse Rifle shroud. They're all various shades of dark grey in color, some with a slight brown tint. It sure as hell does not look like the olive drab color many people have on their rifles. I think most people associate OD with the pulse rifle because of Icons and SD Studios and just think hey that's what it should look like. So then that's what a lot of people expect and they fool themselves.

For the first few years of fandom, I actually thought the pulse rifle had silver/grey shrouds. Must have been color blind!

I for one dont give a rats behind what color it is or what the receiver or anything else is made of except the shroud. Im buying this only for the shroud, which is going on my hero PR. Yup, Im gonna gut mine like a fish LOL. Some might call it heresy, I call it.............well actually I dont care.

I grew up with OG plastic parts on military weapons.
Some SLRs, the L85 and 86, L98, L96 etc

So to me, OG plastic shrouds seem appropriate.

Horses for courses, though!!

I know you're joking- but I would suggest that talk like this not be done in anything but jest considering that one of the employees of Hollywood Collectibles Group is in fact a member of this board.

Why would I need warranty? All I need is the aluminum shrouds. I'm kinda surprised, I thought more people would be buying these just for the shrouds because they are aluminum.
Anyone else doing this or just me ?

Me too.

I'll likely keep it in one piece until I need the shrouds, but I am buying it just for the shrouds. 8)

I'm sure you can buy SD shrouds cheeper. I'm investing in some Aliminum ones if he's still making them to adapt to my Airsoft rifle. I really don't know why but the resin reciever really put me off.

Maybe another time i might get one, some how.

SD doesn't make aluminum shrouds. IIRC someone (SD ?) had two sets made once and it came out to $3500 a set. The only other alternative so far was Matts Alu/resin version but that's not really aluminum.
This is the first time real aluminum shrouds have been offered for the PR at a price that is even close to affordable. I hope it comes out as promised.

If I get one of these, I will most certainly be keeping it in one peice. Despite some compromises, this is an absolutely fantastic replica, IMO.

I wonder if a M1A1 airsoft like the metal Marui can be shoehorned into those shrouds.

That'd be a negative on that one. Those are on HGCs PR page. They have two pages, one of the OD and one for BB... those are on the BB page.

Man I cannot WAIT to get mine :-D

ugh... refinished M1 Garand... HGC PR.... decisions decisions

If a real/resin Thompson can fit, the airsoft can fit.

But is anyone sure the resin cast is of the whole Thompson receiver? What of they just cast part of it as much of it is hidden under the shroud.

Well, as the HCG rifle has a removeable magazine, you'd have to replicate it past the mag well.
Remember, these guys have had access to one of the HERO rifles. They're replicating it
to a higher degree than any other PR replica ever made (with the possible exception of the
SD Studios version).

I'd be willing to bet that it will have a full size, fully cast receiver. It would be pointless to not do it that way.
Especially since all of "us" will be watching.

Besides, they've tapped Matsuo as an advisor. You know Matt's work. I can't see Matt sitting back and saying...

"Yeah, just cast part of the receiver and not the whole thing. The fans will never know."

:)

Hi guys --

here is a small snippet from my film featuring the HCG Pulse Rifle.
I haven't done any image optimising yet so please excuse the picture.
Hopefully it will give you a bit more insight. It's a quicktime file.

Cheers,
