The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Looks to me like an ALICE clip on the webbelt itself. Could be a cord attaching the welder to the clip (someone already mentioned this yes)? Gotta remember this is movie magic- the welders weren't made to be removable from the gear until the shot called for it.

Well, the welder is definitely green. And it looks like the tip and backing head are both black. It also looks like some of the buttons are black as well. I would love to see a better pic of a welder just to figure out the painting scheme.

Tips are black,

Right side has three black parts (cant. lever, raised circle, and concave button)

Rear has one black part which is a small DS helmet bit, but not sure if you have that detail on yours.

As for the left side, I can't tell if the armature is black or not. No good shots of that side.

Also the rear bullet tip has a light pink washer between it and the torch body.

There are no holes in the web belt. Everyone knows that!

The belt is custom made, not an off the shelf pistol belt like that lazy bugger, Spat supplies with his armor.

My Spat Welder kit has arrived. It's beautiful, and the embedded aluminum bars are a stroke of genius. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on some of Taz's Brown Bess substitute and putting this thing together. Great work, Spat!

Having the welder in hand has also caused me to reevaluate the screenshot below and the comments I posted earlier in this thread:

temponaut wrote:
The screenshot below shows Hicks taking cover from the crashing dropship. You can see his welder flopping out to the side. It's not entirely clear, but the silhouette suggests that in this shot the welder may have been attached to a strap connected to Biehn's belt, much like the system Chris/FNG devised for his model.

Now that I have the welder kit in front of me, I can see that tilting the swivel screen all the way back produces a silhouette very much like the one in the screenshot. I previously thought this silhouette was created by webbing, but now I'm pretty sure that what we're seeing is the edge of the welder screen in the folded back position.

Thanks, Pilot!

Glad you like it!

Looking at the pic, there's a chance that the welder was saying, "Bye Bye!" and had come loose from whatever was holding it to the belt.

NES probably, given the colours.
It's standard 80s joystick design, though...

The other day I was looking through the dropship pilot helmet thread and came across this image.
We've all been wondering how the welder was attached to the belt, could it be they used what was already attached the the Hama grip?

Image

Maybe they added a clip of some sort to the fob so it could be clipped on?

Ah, the new posts today have reminded me that I scanned a section of a photo of Hicks a while back and it seems to show his welder being simply tied to his belt.

As far as I know without checking the film I don't think we ever see anyone actually remove (or replace) their welders, it's just implied that they easily unclip and clip back on again.

U see hicks slide his off his belt(?) - one handed - in the "SEAL IT!" scene. Woody and i studied this at ADC's from which we concluded there is a clip of some sort.

We concluded that, on the right side of the Welder, there was a simple slide-clip of the kind you get on a retracting Tape Measure;

Image

Hicks reaches for his Welder and it's clearly clipped to an armour strap, rather than his webbing belt. He just reaches for it and slides it off.

As for the aforementioned Hudson Method - Make a belt loop out of a canvas strap from, say, a '58 Pattern Poncho Roll, perhaps the very strap you cut off to nick the clips for a PR sling. Add a paracord loop and clip the Welder to that.

Job Done.

For the Hicks method, as you are holding the welder, which side would the slide clip be on?
