The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

The grid is EL sheet so i'd say its a bad connection or component failure (driver?) somewhere.

Take the battery cover off.
Remove the two small screws either side of the battery cover screw
The screen front will now pull out (there are two grey ribbon cable running from screen to boards at the back of the housing)
The green ribbon cable is for the EL sheet and i beleive the circuit board on the back of the screen is the EL driver

I unplugged my EL cable from that board and got the situation you find yourself in - sounds+LED but no grid.
You'll need someone with electronics check gear (and E knowledge) to find what is wrong.
The EL cable is fixed to the sheet but maybe try wiggling the plug on the board. (with it running)

I think the circuit board for the grid is on the circuit board thats on the inside and not the one at the front, From what i can see is the green ribbon wire is connected to the white ribbon wire by a short length of circuit board, and then goes inside.
I had a go at wiggling the wires whilst working and nothing  The guy said it was fine when he posted it so must have had a knock whilst in transit, although wrapped in all that foam i cant see it damaging it.
I wouldnt know who to ask to test the components, really am gutted about this

Maybe il try and get some connection cleaner and go over all the bits and give that a try

Thanks for your help on this guys

Yeah that might be good idea, if he can sort yours out. Im gunna see what the courier says as it was working before they sent it.
I wonder if an email to master replicas would be ok and see if they can get hold of a new internal maybe? Or find out who did the elctrics for them?

Cheers marcel

Here's the problem on mine, there is a break in the EL sheet ribbon cable on two of the lines - the one for the background and the 'common' for the radiating lines.
The breaks are beyond the clear plastic coating and occured where the cable is bent the most.

Shining a torch from behind the cable is a good way to detect such defects.

I'm currently investigating a solution.

Additional:
The uncoated portion of the tracks (where the breaks are) is conductive, so i've bought some silver conductive paint to bridge them. Will update if this works.

Is there enough slack on that cable to cut at the damaged portion and put the connector back on the shorter piece?
