The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

If Scapey doesn't have your size, Boots are easily found - Google up army surplus shops and look for US Jungle Boots.
There's also a couple of threads already here with links to suppliers.

Be certain to pick ones with a Panama Sole and remember US sizes are one higher than UK
e.g. US size 12 = UK size 11

Cheers marines!

I'm a size 12, but Rottweiler managed to get me a UK company!

All i'm after now is the Patches, which i've heard BAZFISH has.

But thanks guys.

Not fussed with the BDU's have me own gear i can cope with for now.

This is something that has always confused me as well. I think there is some confusion as to what the Panama Sole actually is. Here is a link to info about jungle boots with the Panam sole:

And here is a link to info about jungle boots with the Vibram sole:

Finally, here are some screen grabs from the film:

You can plainly see that they are the Vibram sole.

That's pretty clear. "Patches and Pins" also has a great range of patches.

Yeah, I was just messing. I know it was the Vibram sole but I didn't have my DVD handy to provide screen shots. Thanks for the reference pics.

I don't think it really matters. As long as it's got a canvas top then you're good to go IMHO. But then again, I wear Magnums so what do I know. ;)

So, have we decided conclusively that the Vibram sole is the accurate one?
is it possible they might have both in the movie?

Well, without looking at everyone's boots during the film and going by the fact that both Hicks and Hudson are wearing Vibram (as seen in screencaps) I'd hazard a guess and say that yes, it's pretty conclusive.

Yeah, that's been discussed before Rob.

The boots that came with my Hudson costume (which I've no reason to doubt were original, they even had 1986 newspaper stuffed into the toes to keep them in shape) have the vibram sole. It's clear when comparing them to the above images that the sole is the vibram style. I think they're incorrectly listed on my site as having the Panama sole; sorry about that!

It's likely that both types were used, I very much doubt that the costume department were concerned about what the soles of the boots looked like. As Vicky said earlier as long as they looked the same while you're standing up in them that would have been enough.

Harry.

I know it's been posted before, but Moore Militaria make some nice boots (Vibram sole)
they are more expensive than the standard green combat boots ($70) but I think they are worth it.
