The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I've just been browsing Play.com's site and they've got A:CM with a release date of 26th March 2010!!! I think this is the date they gave it for it's release in 2009 - so do you think it's just a date they've randomly assigned it with no grounding at all???

Yep, I think they're making it up. I've had it on pre-order for a long time and it keeps getting kicked back.

I've already started prodding acquaintances at Rebellion to find out what they are thinking with the armour and the pulse rifle (which looks a lot more angular in the pictures)

For those in the UK - Get the June issue of X-Box 360 Magazine (Co-Op had it last night).
Rebellion's AvP is on the cover and featured in an 8-page spread!!!!

There is also a US magazine review in the June issue of Official Xbox Magazine.

All I can say is - "Trophy Kill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :D

It saddens me to think that despite the immense wealth of reference material out there for all this stuff that people still get this stuff wrong!

I hear ya, buddy.

TBH, I think the designers like to put their artistic stamp on things and force the developers to make it like they see it, rather than how it really is.

Or it could just be keeping things simple enough that the PC/game-box-thing can handle the graphics. Already I've seen a couple of other new games that are nearing completion (no idea what they were called or anything) and I was told that the PCs needed to handle the graphics weren't available on the market yet!!!

However, my first thought upon seeing the Marines was still, "What have they done to the armour?". They're missing the small bit from the middle of the shoulder bell, it's all angular, the Ab section is completely wrong.... Pulse Rifle looks recognisible at least, but it's got some very strange detailing...

My guess is that the design artists have updated it to match the images of today's technology expectations, rather than stick with what they think looks a little dated nowadays.
None of the Marines seem to be wearing helmets, either...

However, credit where due - Lots of nice little touches, like Hudson's 'Death Or Glory' detailing appearing on one Marine's armour and a USCM Delta sticker on one of the Pulse Rifle shrouds.

Xenos look to be a mixture of Alien and Aliens style with teh smooth and detailed heads respectively. They also look very thin - like an anorexic version of Abe

It's always the lay backs of the corporation. Gearbox have recently gone under that with the new Aliens:- Colonial Marines.

Again they said that it's unsure weather A:CM will be finished this year. So there is still hope marines.

But hey, we can still imagine.

*scene*

Marines By-passing the Sulaco's port side door. Marines equipped with M41a Pulse Rifles, Smart Guns, ect.....

Hords of Aliens lurking around the corner - (have no idea why)

Marines discover missing cryo tubes from Ripley, Hicks, Bishop and Newt - "Unidentifyed Female 12 years old".

It's going to be a brilliant game.

Imagine us all playing it as an X-box 360 live. Me with the motion tracker. "Barney the big purple dinosaur" with his pulse rifle, All dreams come true.

Omg *wet patch in my pants*

Sorry, i'll stop there

For the benefit of consoles maybe, but there's not a lot an up-to-date modern PC can't render well. I think it's all down to designers wanting to stamp their mark on the IP.

Well given that the first reviews come from an X-Box magazine, guess what the primary market is.

Actually, that's obvious isn't it - SEGA are running the thing in the first place. AFAIK, they only do consoles and not PCs, right?. Which means it's only coming out on PC as a bonus market.
Personally, I think they are the ones who did the design and the poor developers are just sat there going, "The players are gonna hate this......".

SEGA publish a few big name titles on the PC, most notably the Total War series. :)

I'd prefer if AvP didn't see the light of day and A:CM did, to be honest. Original AvP? Pretty damned good. Sequel? Pants. The new one? Looks pants too...

Well, according to one of teh magazine reviews, New AvP takes place a few decades after the Aliens movie... which'd explain why things have changed slightly.

End of the day, it's just a game and these things will always have differences depending on the designers, the budget and the time available. Same as with the movies - You could argue that Alien3 is a complete waste of time because the PRs are black and the Newt body is clearly not a 10-year old Carrie Henn.

Exactly. Look at the loadouts and equipment/uniforms of the modern Army/Marines compared to what they used in 1986, and I guarantee
it's not the same.

Now while I don't agree with the thigh armor on the marines, the rest doesn't look that bad. A slight
update to the classic design.

And for the record, I loved the AvP2 PC game. :)

It's not really the updates to kit and whatnot, that I can understand. Hell, look at the Army's kit from when they jumped back into the sandbox in 2003 or whenever it was and what they use now, completely overhauled, and that's in six years.

It's the comic-book stylings that really grate my cheese, it's hard to put my finger on, but everything looks so... Cartoony...

I'm guessing that (like most pre-release pics) the screenshots (if that's what they really are and not just artist's impressions of the gameplay) have been rendered/tarted up a lot, so have a Photoshop/vectored look to them.
