The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm wondering if it wasnt a last minute thing added to only that PR considering it was Sigourney using it, maybe she originally was supposed to have it to her shoulder and they didnt want bruises then later switched to the hip firing. Just a thought.

I doubt that'd offer much in the way of padding.

I'm sticking with my idea of it being a non-slip surface to grip clothing or armour and keep it in the shoulder.

Not to mention that it would keep the stock from scratching the armor up

Could the extra piece be a strengthening strip welded on to give the butt more strength? There was also the 'hero' with the bent stock, wasn't there? Perhaps this one had a bit extra welded on it to strengthen it?
