I was (up until yesterday) an Applications Support Analyst - supporting several mainframe (and one client/server) applications across Europe for one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. I didn't work for the car company, but we looked after their systems. Today I am unemployed

Some apps went to Spain, lots more went to India, and some others were given to another company to support (the whole project was up for renewal and everything had to be re-bid, so lots of things changed).
There were about 14 of us that were either made redundant, or moved up to Newcastle (which would probably take me 1.5 to 2 hours to get there each day). I had a job there if I wanted it, but it's too far, and I don't want to move.
It's a real shame, as I have worked there for almost six years and I have some very good friends there. Now we are all split up. I'll still see them, but we'll all miss each other.
Anyway, I'm applying for other jobs now, so hopefully something else will turn up soon. I just hope I end up working with people who I get on with half as well as the last place. That makes a huge difference.
Sorry for the depressing post...
Paul.
