Are the tops of the grenades the little red glue stick lids? I always assumed they were but never seen it mentioned anywhere. I figured I'd ask then.

Could you maybe be more clear what "the little red glue stick lids" are, maybe with a photo or link to a photo of them?

Heres one in red . Its got a rounded top but there was one I used as a kid that looked just right UHU maybe? I lived in Europe then, maybe one of the European members can pitch in?

now that prit stick looks like you might be on to something. just paint the two rings in between the three recessed ones and i'd imagine it would be pretty close, depending on size ofcourse.

The caps on the original grenades were painted white plastic with a smooth exterior. I'm not sure they were glue-stick caps though, but as far as I know the source hasn't been identified.

The M40 caps had rounded edges - just not as much rounded as on the Elmer's glue stick.
I checked Uhu and Pritt glue stick caps a few years ago, but the size didn't really match.

Did they have glue sticks back in the 80's?
That photo linked above looks very similar to the locator tube.
