The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

PostPosted: Wed Aug 16, 2006 4:38 am
So I'm starting to get shite organized for DC and come across my wife's A-Wing flightsuit all olive drab that it is and I'm thinking I could pull a passable Dropship pilot together in time so that she could march with us. I say passable due to the fact that the flightsuit's pockets and such are not screen accurate. But we do have mirrored tear drop sunglasses and the necessary patches.

I'm mentioning this 'cuz she's worried about stepping on the toes of guys who've spent months, if not years, and many, many dollars and even more hours accumulating the best damn uniforms out there. In her words she summed it up saying "I don't want to march along side guys who've busted their asses looking lilke one."

So I ask, does anyone mind?

Are you kidding? Echo....

Bring her!

My wife came one year as Ripley as she wasn't 100% accurate.

Who the heck knows anyway!

For that matter I brought my Westie, Scooter, dressed out in "USCM" armor... now that's a STRETCH!

I'm sorry, but if the collar is even 1mm off, I will go out of my way to step on her toes the whole time we are marching.

Sorry, but I am all about perfection and 100% accuaracy when it comes to costumes.

Could you taste the sarcasm on that?

Hey, that's what I love about this group. Being able to make fun of each other and their costumes and still have respect for one another. ;)

Maybe we can stash her between the taller grunts and no one will be the wiser... j/k LOL!

It was delicious. More please. With sprinkles this time. ;)

I think the "Ideal" would be to have "screen accurate" gear and equiment. But few of us can afford to buy said equipment from the original makers, so often "close enough" is good enough. Obviously, most ANY piece of prop material (costume, hand props, etc.) can be improved with time and money, unless it's screen used. And sometimes the fan built items have more detail than the SU items do. And if you can't afford either, that's life. Join in anyway. :)

I was waiting for somone to comment on that. :)

No insult intended, just commenting on the strict membership guidelines the 501st has (or at least seems to have in some venues.)

But they would probably just think I'm a vampire hunter.

But Russ haven't you heard that we are strictly increasing the guidelines for costuming? Only Terry English armour will be accepted. Hair must be kept in a "high and tight" marine crewcut fashion (regardless of gender). Homemade props will be closely scrutinized and must be made using the original items that were used to create the screenused props. Resin replicas will NOT be accepted! Boots must be Vibram sole, BDUs must be tailored using what remains of the original bolts of camouflage material (when that material runs out, oh well.) Failure to follow the guidelines will result in disciplinary action up to and including (but not limited to) being blackballed from all related websites, bulletin boards, events, and gatherings. We will be forced to snub you on the street. AND we will have a new rank structure that must be adhered to OR YOU WILL BE BANNED!!!

Oops! Guess that counts me out first eh?

How was that for sarcasm? ;)

Ohhhh, I take that back. That was going too far ;)

Thanks Kev.

Just for laughs. Here is a quote from one of the guys I met at Sideshow during ComicCon when he was asking about where he could get USCM gear.

"I just don't want to be another Stormtrooper..."

I can laugh because I'm friends with the gentleman who has to 'approve' what is acceptable and what is not. Oh the horror stories I could share -- that is one job I would not wish on anyone. I'm sure it was tough to turn down the Stormtrooper from the UK who made his armour completely out of used cereal boxes. Nevertheless, it was still quite awesome.

That's classic! And surprisingly (or perhaps not so much so) not the first time I've heard that. ;)

Actually Kevin, had highly scrutinized rules and strict guidelines existed for our USCM gear, I believe that I would have been the very first to be banned at Dragon*Con last year -- what with my 'beach wear' and completely inaccurate smart-gun. :P But at least I would have been in good company. ;)

No question in my mind Chris -- go for it! :D
