The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

No offense to Jessie, but I hope he returns it, a few years is long
enough. I hope they (DZ.C guys) still feel part of this board, and are busy with other things. I know how some people loose interest and drop off the planet here.

So, if I'm hearing this correctly, Steve and Stefan have the mount,

and sight. Damn! I don't think the rest of us knew that!

I didn't have hope on the spunkmeyer stuff getting done.

So a repro would be vac-formed and some resin rails?

I sure wouldn't want that mount to be a solid resin chunk....

Need some picts of the mount.....

The mount is Injected plastic. The Lip has a nasty under cut.
Stefan can show the pictures. The rails are resin (hard plastic) glued on. Easy enough to cast.

I hope to hear something from Jesse soon.
This was my last conversation in Jan. this year.

"I've got 2 parts still in silicone (they were ready to be cut out and then the roomates needed the aforementioned card table that was serving as my bench again), and the visor is partially clayed."

Hi Matt,
had a busy weekend. I'll see to get the pictures done as soon as possible.

Steve,
are you sure the mount is injection molded? I'd say it's a vacuum formed part with the front welded/glued in (have a look at the inside and you'll see the seam...). The rails on the other hand are injection molded.

Cheers,
Stefan

I was thinking vac formed with doing sep. operation to get

the lip.

Now I'm going to have to make the sight right?

Unless nobody wants one....

Waiting for Mr. Slater..............

It just might be vac formed Stefan. Now that I think about it. wasn't one side textured like ABS... I haven't seen it first hand in awhile.

- Nothing was altered on this sight unit (alt least by me). What looks like crappy glued parts seems to be original to the mount! These parts are either glued on later (the rails) or part of the mold/vaccum form master.
- The color difference between the mount and the rail is much less obvious in real life (the brown parts look more like the green of the mount).

Hope these help.

Cheers,
Stefan

PS: Matt, let me know your max. email-size and I'll get you the large versions...

Steve,

I hope you get your sight back (soon). I know this situation first hand from more than one occasion. :(
However, it's a hobby and real life can take unexpected turns.

Hmm, that reminds me - I won one of Jesse's casts.... Jesse!

Cheers,
Stefan

The question is,,,

Is someone willing to repro these?

I'm willing to the greeblie sight, but that's it.

I don't have a vac set up, and haven't done it since college.

Resin wouldn't be an option for this, except the rails in my opinion.

Any chance of mocking it up in 3D Stefan?

Could it be made in fibreglass (GRP)?

Steve,

could you check with Jesse if he's doing his parts any time soon?
I could mold the parts but I don't want to go into competition with Jesse.
Furthermore, I won't have the time to do this before my holidays in August and I also don't have the time and/or equipment to do the actual casting/fiberglassing/vacuumforming.

Cheers,
Stefan

I will continue to see what Jesse has to say.

Since the eye piece is molded at his house there is no reason to do it again. Just have to see where he is at on it.

Stand by....

Is Gio still here?

Could someone please tell me the dimensions of the 'slatted' part at the top of this image?

Image

It's mostly the total length, from top of first slat to bottom of last slat, that I need.

I can't give you exact dimensions for the slats, but the black area is 21mm high, 16mm wide at the bottom and 14mm wide at the top.

Cheers,
Stefan

Thanks!

Well, I have this:

left over from the airlock handle thread. If I measure eight slats, it comes to 22mm. Is that a possibility?

Hmm, sounds good!
Tough we might have to cut it up and fit it to the part - it's the only way to be sure! ;)

Bear in mind that the grille bit might be set into the main part, so would only show the top of the grille. :)

I have just seen that photo in a different way for the first time yet.

I had always looked at it as though the thick black sections were the tops of the ridges while the BB lines were the valleys in between. This showed the ridges as quite shallow.

A bit like one of trick of the eye pictures I now see it as though the thin BB are the ridges with the black sections the shadow between them.

Could be that part after all.

Heh, yeah I can see how you'd think that. :D

Maybe you need glasses/a better monitor?
