The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hard to do when the buttonhole is already on the flap... the only realistic way to do it is to get a whole new flap made.

Cooter- yeah it was mentioned on page one I think. The belief is that Gorman's shirt was completely fabricated from scratch.

There are too many oddities about it- the Mandarin collar, buttonless pocket flaps (even though the shirt itself has visible buttons), and the pocket flaps are larger than the pockets themselves (which is really odd).

I considered removing the buttons (and perhaps sewing the buttonholes shut), but decided it would look worse. I can live with them.

I just wish the pockets didn't have the pleats on them (I actually hate the pleats). As much as I thought this shirt was better than a standard USMC service shirt, I'm beginning to believe the opposite is true.

Looks great Kev!

The collar is important one. And the patches look nice.

You can always uprade the pocket later..

I may have to do one of these for Dcon next year. Since I'm a PVT I will probably just go with a traditional garrison cap. Save the fancy hat for you NCOs and Officers. SIR! :P

Ok, I just spent the best part of an hour looking online for suppliers of fine Canadian goods - and I couldn't find anyone who sold CF pants - combat and BDU ones aplenty, but no dress ones.

Similarly, I found only one place that had CF caps for sale - they only deliver to Canada or the US. >.< Duh...

Anyone out there knows where to get such items on international-sending websites? Or would be willing to pick up something for me and send it my way themselves? Pretty please?

Also, Paradestore had a Garrison Belt with brass buckle available - is the the one you got, Sarge? What size is yours?

This is my best chance to have an acceptable uniform for flag-bearing duty - can't pass on it!

Luinsar- pm me your height (in inches) waist and hat size and I'll see what I can do for you. There is a surplus store I frequent that has stacks and stacks of pants, but the caps are a bit hard to come by.

For the belt I got one off ebay for $15. It was a factory second so it had a slight imperfection- but it isn't noticable. It's is a 1 3/4 inch wide belt.

Ok I've already received a couple of PM's so I'll say this here.

The pants will most likely be very easy for me to pick up. Like I said there is a store that has a pile of them.

It's the cap that is difficult to come by. They are mostly officer surplus so they usually have a gold band that goes along the rim of the peak like this:

Image

There was one store that had a few without the gold band- but the caps ranged in shape from totally beat up to semi-decent. Sometimes they are missing the inner band that keeps the brim stiff. I got lucky with the one I bought.

I'll be able to go to Toronto next week (about an hour from my house) where the surplus stores that I bought my cap and pants from are. Pants were $20- caps were between $20 and $30.

Dom- do you have a source for the cap?

So...

Thanks to the Sarge I'm set for a hat and pants, I've just ordered ribbons and belt, I already have a spare coin, metal rank pins, name badge, various USCM-specific badges...

All I have left to order is the shirt - oh, and what type of shoes is needed? I'd rather not buy another pair if the regular shiny black dress shoes I have can do the trick. :p

I'd have to see them to be sure- but if they look like standard Oxford style dress shoes they should be fine.

That's what I'll be wearing with this and my Dress Blues uniforms.

Mmh... That may sound like a silly question, but...

The cap device/challenge coin, which side are we showing? The Delta (I'd assume) or the Eagle?

I get to test run this uniform tomorrow for the sci-fi dinner birthday party we're having. Pity Paradestore didn't get the finger out in time - apparently my order still hasn't even left the shop. Whoop-te-doo.

I'd like to try doing one of these next year.

Of course, if I do, I'll probably store them at someone else's place, or in a fire-proof box.

There were loads of the caps for sale from Army Surplus stalls at the Glastonbury festival this year for £5.
Could I find one in 56? Could I hell... :(

For my personal use I thought for a moment I had struck lucky with a nice brand new QCS cap for £7 but it was a size 50. Who's got a head that small?????

No Drill Instructor hat and mirror glasses for you pal. You wanted to be a Major, so, you wear a service cap. Unless you want a demotion to Sergeant, it ain't gonna happen. :)

... and I'll teach you to salute too.

For God's sake please do!

Hmmm... Maybe I should go ahead and sew that SSgt rank on my arm anyway.

Truthfully... all anyone really has to do is look at Frank's pic and your avatar. It doen't get sharper than that.
