The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey Mole,

Yeah, it's just the as many as you can in 2 minutes standard. The official procedure is:

Test Sequence
The test sequence is the push-up, sit-up, and 2-mile run (or alternate, aerobic event). The order of events cannot be changed. There are no exceptions to this sequence. Soldiers are allowed no less than 10 minutes, but ideally no more than 20 minutes, to recover between each event. Under no circumstances is the APFT valid if a soldier cannot begin and end all three events in two hours or less.

Here's a link:
http://www.army.com/enlist/APFT.html

You know.... it only occurs to me now that I didn't stretch AFTER the run. I'm sore all over. >_>

Hey, moving counts as weight lifting. Keep at it Dom, you're doing great. Are you seeing any differences in overall health, maybe appearance?

Well, I don't lose my breath as easily when going up stairs any more... that's a good thing. As far as appearance is concerned, I'm at a bit of a loss... I'm not eating any more than I was before I started running, yet a friend that I saw last Sunday whom I haven't seen in a while asked me if I gained weight. Believe me, the #1 catchphrase at home has been "So when does the weight loss begin?"

Anyways, thanks for the encouragment, I'll keep treading away. Hopefully I'll look good by DCon.

You're obviously busting your butt. Take a look at your diet. You might find a free calorie tracking website like fitday.com or something. Log everything you eat for a few days along with your exercise and see if you have a negative caloric intake (required to lose weight).

If you carbs are higher than your protein that doesn't help either. A lot of plans start out at a 40\40\20 split, protein\carbs\fats for percentages. If you have less carbs, that will work too.

You'll get there Dom. Sometimes it can seem like nothing's changing but one day, and soon, you'll look in the mirror and be like "Damn, I am loosing weight!" Keep at it, by Dragon you'll be fit as a fiddle

200 !!!!
Thats right, TWO HUNDRED pushups !!!
I didn't want to post anything in this thread until I had achieved what I set out to do.
Which is 200 push ups, 4 sets of 50.
I started off several months ago, on and off.
When I started I could barely do 10.
Tonight for my second time I got to 200.
Most nights I stop at 150.
Sadly, this means I have my next task ahead of me, I have to start on my stomach now.
Now to add crunches to my routine.
Good luck everyone on whatever you are trying to achieve.
And good on you Kev for starting this thread in the first place.

Congratulations Scott! Quite an accomplishment! I don't think I could do half that amount if my life depended on it!

And keep at it Dom! The weight will come off! Took me nine months when I used to go jogging before I started working out with weights. And I was only going once a week.

I've been a bit quiet around here as my workouts have not been that intense lately. I've been wrapping my elbows which has helped with the pain. And I started working my forearms for the first time... ever.

Basically the pain in my left forearm/bicep is caused by an imbalance in strength with my forearm muscles. When I curl something the imbalance literally pulls the bones apart slightly putting pressure on the tendons causing the pain. Wrapping my forearms helps keep the bones from being separated (we are only talking millimetres here), and strengthening the forearm should help combat the imbalance itself.

So now I do reverse curls either with an EZ curl bar or on the preacher curl machine. Preacher curls are hilarious as I can only do 10lbs with a reverse grip (as opposed to up to 70lbs with a regular grip).

And I've been falling off my diet lately too.

But I'm going to have to get myself in gear if I want to shine for D-Con! One of my costumes is a bit... revealing. 8)

I guess its finally time to chime in:

As some of you may know back in April I had a major surgery to have part of an organ removed. Well after two months of recovery its time to finally get into shape.

Ht 6'2"
Wt 220lbs.
BMI-28.2 (Gross I know)

I need some advice here...
I plan to tonight ride the bike (gym one) for a half an hour (or until I am exhausted) which ever comes first. Then find out what weight is my max to rep in curls.

Kev I am looking for Spartan Defination, but not necessarily bulk, by Dragon Con 2009. Any suggestions? I plan to work out five times a week for no less than 1.5 hours...

Definition comes with fat loss.

Fat loss comes with cardio and resistance training (as muscle burns fat)

Burn more than you take in, calorie wise.

And remember, there is no such thing as spot training. We all loose fat uniformly.

Yeah this is my biggest weakness. I have a foundness for soda pop and sweets. I drink a 2ltr of pop a day. My doctor informed me that there are enough calories in my pop intake alone to equal 100% of the calories I actually need. I guess that has to be the first sacrafice.

No... No SPARTAAAAA for me.

Like I said... 80s.

As for definition- it's all about what you put in your mouth (no dirty jokes please   ).

Really it's about what you eat. Calories in- calories out. To get defined you have to burn more calories than you consume.

So yeah you need to up the cardio and muscle does burn fat as Ash said. But you really have to clean up your eating habits. Choose fish, poultry, lean red meat, eggs etc. Eat your vegetables. Drink skim milk. No more junk food, fried food, snacks, etc. No high calorie drinks... especially beer.

Some people try to exercise more and not change their eating habits thinking they will burn off the extra calories. Truth is if you are still eating high fat high carb foods- you will not be able to workout enough to overcome the tremendous amount of calories you are ingesting.

Consider this- one pound of fat has about 3500 calories. Now think about how long on the stairmaster you would need to burn that one pound worth of fat.

Now multiply that by how many pounds you want to lose.

You can't do it with exercise alone. You have to change your eating habits. And don't waste your money on fat burning pills. They are worthless and I've tried many. No good for anything other than speeding up your heart rate.

Another problem with high carb diets is that simple carbs make your body produce insulin. Insulin happens to be a strong hormone for storing fat. You almost have to eat like a diabetic person. Avoid sugary foods/drinks. Have a treat once in a while, but don't make a daily habit of it.

Hope I didn't sound like I was preaching.
