The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Sounds good Kev. The only thing I would say is that "personally" I don't like the term "starfighter" it just sounds abit too cheesy, just my opinion though. I think it would be better if you just dropped the star bit.

Some real life fighter plane that is codenamed Starfighter (Lockheed F-106 or something?)

Pete just wanted to be a smart arse and say it in a cryptic way by just posting a random pic. ;)

ah OK thanks Gareth. Well just because there actually IS a plane called a Starfighter my opinion is still the same. Now I just think that the one pictured sounds cheesy.

Anyway, it was only a minor point and just my personal opinion anyway. No need to derail the thread any further for it.

Cheers

Amazing what one word can do.

Really I was working off the concept drawing for the unused patch (I'm surprised nobody wondered where "Glokai" came from  ).

The Dropship had a pretty cool (albeit EU) designation: UD4L "Cheyenne" Dropship.

So any suggestions for a space faring strike/interceptor craft?

PS...

1) Don't dis "The Last Starfighter"; it rocks! :D

2) F-104s practically were rockets with wings. They truly may as well have been Starfighters. 8) :)

Darren- just to clarify I do understand where you're coming from- Starfighter does sound... ummm... tacky for lack of a better word. But I am stumped for a more scientific sounding name. Other than spacecraft.

Aw, hells no, Russ. I couldn't get enough of the movie growing up! I read the original director wants to do a sequel.

Okay, back on topic. Kevin, if you go by the Tech Manual, there is a mention of a couple of models of strikeships (as they called them): the AD-19C (or D model) Bearcat or the AD-17A Cougar. Page 40, smack dab in the middle of the page.

Followin the Space Above and Beyond theme,

"Endo/Exo Assault Jets" was I believe how Bogus described the Hammerheads in the pilot episode.

Thanks Jay! Checking it out now!

TK-1085 thanks again- the SA-43 LIDAR and "Exothermic" "Endothermic" takeoff procedures are a nod to the Hammerhead.

Hmmmm...

AD-144 Glokai Interceptor?

I'm actually starting to hate the name "Glokai".

Endo/exo Strike Interceptor.
Assault Dropship.
Aerospace superiority Fighter.. Or Gunship.

Hmm, would using Assault and gunship be redundant?

Also nicknamed the Widowmaker as it killed a lot of pilots with its very tricky handling.

The Widowmaker!

Long and lean
a silver queen
have you ever seen
such a flying machine
hits the ground
as fast as sound
seven hundred thousand pounds
of little pieces lying around.

Hey...what's the best way to get a Starfighter?

Buy an acre of land and wait!

Kevin, There must be a dramatic renaissance of the USCM Air Wing. The long awaited reawakening of Colonial Marine air supremacy. Out of the ashes of defeat...a shining silver bird arising...we will sew up the skies with our gleaming needles!

Man that thing is all nose!

At least it's got two engines...you know for when if one of the engines ingests a pigeon, or maybe a duck...which weighs the same as a witch you know... Come to think of it I wonder if there have been any FOD incidents involving witches...Hmmmm...

Thanks Kev but I cant take credit, those were excerpts from the now infamous Captain Lockheed an the Starfighters album, by Bob Calvert of Hawkwind. A dreadfully satirical album lampooning the abysmal safety record of the Starfighter. Very funny albeit very dark humor.

Cool flight get up Kev. My only two cents is if they make electrical shrink tubing the size of the o2 hose, that would give it a finishing touch. BTW the leading edges of the Starfighter are the sharpest I have ever seen...as in cut your forehead open sharp.

Anyone remember the fighter/attack dropship made up by Stevierad or one of the other 'old ones'?

Pretty sweet hardware too.
