The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Looks brilliant Kevin.
Like the others, love the mask.

Is there any way of attaching the tube without tape?
Could you cut away the internal grill/vent bits off, that front part of the mask, so the tubing goes inside?

PunkMarine- hadn't fogotten about your post.
I recently made some minor improvements to the mask:

Image

I replaced the duct tape with electrical tape giving it a much smoother appearance. I'm kind of hesitant to cut and remove the plastic grill for the moment. I also added a $2 dollar USB extension to simulate the internal microphone cord.

Image

The uniform is nearly completed. I aquired a CF survival vest on a trade:

Image

The holster is my old homemade dropleg holster. It's held onto the vest with snaps.

Image

Sidearm is a S&W 4506 repainted to look like Vas' M39.

And here's how the uniform looks so far:

Image

Image

Last thing to grab is a self inflating life preserver. Real military surplus ones can be a couple of hundred dollars (which I can't afford or justify)- so I'm going to grab a civilian paraglider life preserver at a quarter the price:

Image

Gonna see if I can spray it OD.

Thanks Darren!

I forgot to add... I found a concept drawing of an unused patch on the Quad's 9th disc:

Image

Funnily enough it would be perfect for my uniform! Guess they did have a "fast mover" in mind. And doesn't this have a strong resemblance to the F-117 Stealth Fighter?

Image

Pretty weird considering the patch was drawn in 1985, and the F-117 wasn't revealed until 1988! Hmmmmm... :o

Love to see your creativeness in costuming. Taking everyday things to make a costume is a talent you have shown us many times. Keep it up.

Very nice, Kev. But I definitely think you need something extra on your legs. How about some strapping/webbing like on X-Wing pilots?

Or like parachute harnesses:

Harnesses do not belong on scifi spacecraft pilots. They trip up costumers... trust me on this.

LOL! I wasn't thinking quite as long as the x-wing pilots harness but something along those line.

The only other option is a pair of speed jeans (G-suit) which is going to be expensive and uncomfortable to wear for very long.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I know what you're saying Vicky, the uniform does look like it's lacking something on the leg area. I have seen a set of US G pants in my size, I just don't know if I want to spend the money. I've pretty much gone way overboard with my costume spending this year.

It would certainly fill out the remainder of the uniform though. I'll see if I have any cash left after I finish the vest with the flotation device.

Actually what would work to fill in that space on the leg, nice pilot knee board. Ya know one of the note pad cases like the cops use just a little smaller and straps to your thigh. It would not only fill the area but you would always have pen and paper handy. hehe.

Had a quick play in PSP:

Image

What do you think? Just a bit of green webbing and some clips of some kind. Bit cheaper than a G-suit. ;)

You need something in those thigh pockets as well. Preflight checklist anyone? Here's a link to the one they use on BSG as a guide:

The only suggestion I have would be to OD Krylon the outside of your black holster. :)

Looks great Kev!

How about a map in that pocket, if it has a clear window.

Also, how about a calculator of some type? Don't pilots use something like that to calculate trip times and fuel usage?

As to the straps - modern G-suits DO have "crotchgrabbers" just like what was pictured. It's like a climber's harness. I think putting some leg straps on the bottom of the vest would be a great idea.

As to the cockpit picture - U.S. Naval Aviation Museum, NAS Pensacola Florida?

I actually have one of those from my flying days with the Air Cadets (I was a glider familiarization pilot back then). It's still at my Parents house somewhere. I figured it would be kinda low-tech for this though.

As for the pockets- A pre-flight checklist is a great idea! I was going to make a starchart for one of the legs by taking the flightpath of the Nostromo and making a negative of it (making it white with black stars).

I'll figure something out for a harness.

Thanks again everyone!

Did some brainstorming for a pre-flight checklist last night. How's this sound:

AF-144 GLOKAI STARFIGHTER
PRE-FLIGHT CHECKLIST

WALKAROUND:

Intakes......................CLEAR
Weapons Bay............SECURE AND FLUSH
Chocks.......................REMOVED

COCKPIT:

Instruments...............FUNCTIONING
Controls.....................FUNCTIONING
Canopy......................CLOSED AND LOCKED
Straps........................ON
Cabin..........................PRESSURIZED

POWER UP:

Batteries..........................ON
Pre-Flux Coil Port.............ON
Pre-Flux Coil Starboard....ON
Main Stage Coil................ON
ComSAT............................ENABLE
SA-43 LIDAR.....................ACTIVE
Weapons.........................SAFE
Engine.............................START

TAKEOFF:

Endothermic
Trim.................................FULL FORWARD
Flaps...............................DOWN
Throttle...........................90%
Launch Officer.................CLEAR

Exothermic
Trim.................................CENTRED
Flaps...............................UP
Throttle...........................40%
Bay Doors.......................OPEN
Release Sequencer.........ON YOUR MARK

Pulled some star charts off the web too. I'll have something to put in those knee pockets now.

However this pretty much means that a G-suit is out of the question; the pads will cover the pockets on the knees (I don't mind saving some money on this either  ).

Sounds good Kev. The only thing I would say is that "personally" I don't like the term "starfighter" it just sounds abit too cheesy, just my opinion though. I think it would be better if you just dropped the star bit.

Cheers
