The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

nick i will be making the shrouds myself it cant be any harder than what i been through with the receiver :? and if it is i got nothin but time ,making the first one is the hardest got to figure out the best way to do it,as regards paint v oil with no primer on the metal parts i can scrape the paint of with a thumb nail, it literaly is a blow over more like engineers blue than a paint finish, its easy to mark out lines and holes with a quick scratch. pencil, marker etc can and does rub off as said before im a chippy not a metal worker but the advice i was given was to paint the parts with engineers blue for mark out ,alterations ,dont have any so why spend money when i got paint here and it does both jobs rustproofer and blue ,patrick cheers for droppin by dude,

been workin on this for the past few days, bolt and carrier nearly finished it cocks and on half cock will shut with a squeeze of the trigger :D will try to stick a you tube link in here so you can see what i been up to appologies for the quality took it on my phone :? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=INQKHWVf9BE
i also include a few pics of how i did it ,the bolt is exactly that a cut down bolt turned in a drill chuck using a file, with the nut welded into the carrier,i think it looks the part, the rest are the return spring and internals,to get it to close on a trigger pull i added a piece to the trigger that pushes upward as it is pulled ,if anyone is interested i can go into detail for ya,still need to sort out the eject mechanism but waitin for some bits to sort out allignment, well what do ya think :? ? all the best , Rob

As you ask so shall you receive  here ya go mate this is how i got it to work, the pictures pretty much speak for themselves, but i welded a flat bottom onto the carrier just the first couple of inches and welded a pin onto the trigger that sits just below the rails at rest,as you pull on the trigger the pin pushes on the flat bottom of the carrier and hey presto it closes, very simple but effective it makes a great noise too,the benefit of working in steel, a good solid ka chuck when you cock it,for some reason when i converted the movie from 3gp to mpeg 2 it stripped the sound off :( ,i dont know how to get a sound file on here or you could have a listen, Jamie I got your email address so will send it through to you all the best mate  , Rob

here ya go nick as asked, everything you see in the pictures is built from scratch in steel by yours truly, apart from the selector switches "aluminium" to be swapped out by steel, and the resin handle supplied by you mate, none of the main parts ,vent ,spas or thompson are cut to correct length yet ,but it gives you an idea of where i am at the moment :D still a ways to go i think :? ,all the best ,Rob

This is amazing, I've loved watching this thread. You've done some great work. It takes a lot of patience and persistence to finish a build like this and it appears that you have no shortage of either one. Keep up the good work.

PS: are you interested in making a second? lol.

Looking at that pic I'd say that the Spas cage and vent are about the right length anyway. :)

Hi Jester. I'm in no way uncomfortable with it - I just think you should maybe watch your back, given the current climate. :) I, for one, think it's great and want to see more!
