The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

We've gone this long on the board (in all it's incarnations) without having to seperate cannon and non-cannon subjects.

It seems most everyone knows the difference, but if not, it hasn't caused any problems.

I say we leave things the way they are, if it aint broke...

Aye....Old ways is best ways....

Don't much care for new Ideas and people coming in trying to change things and tell us how it ought to be.

Way I reckon, you joined this group, you knew what it was about when you did, it atent your place to go around calling for changes beyond what we need.

I think it's time some of these young pups get reminded of their place... I reckon...

Reminds me of what my old pappy used to say..He weren't a smart man but he knew what it took to make things work...

He'd say, many organizations and or clubs geared towards a common interest have a clear goal and purpose, but that purpose often gets confounded as a group grows and competing ideals begin to surface. A common distraction is the temptation to over-diversify when the group as a whole begins to show signs of stress due to the introduction of these new ideals and the inevitable competition they foster.

While diversifying and widening the scope of a group may be an effective solution for large professional or for-profit groups, most small 'clubs' (such as collectors societies) do not have sufficient resources to open additional forums and sub-groups successfully, without further taxing the administrative staff who generally work on a volunteer basis. Keeping the scope and scale narrow or at least as focused as originally designed at the groups inception, allows for ease of control and prevents the purpose and mission of the group from becoming irrevocably muddled.

Good ol pappy...

Matt

It's obvious by the numbers where this is heading.

I don't know HOW this started, WHY this started, WHEN this started, or WHO started this...

But can't we just delete the previous week of posts and go back the way it has been?

I think it's best to live and learn from these times.

Just like my old pal Caveman Joe used to say...

Man who forget past , doom self to repeat mistakes... Him fall to vicious repetitive cycle, like being caught in spinning conundrum and with each turn he sink deeper into oblivion.

Boy, I'm out sick for a week and everyone gets all uppity.

"I'm" more a fan of the canon costuming, but I'm not going to say that Kevin can't carry his EU cannon (P.I.G.). That's not how we work here.

Keep in mind that the film is over 20 years old, and we keep getting saddled with sequels that are... not exactly... what we all want to see from the franchise. So we deal with it and move on.

Obviously, some EU examples are better than others. The ebay examples for instance of "spent" or fired PR grenades... could be better. :)

Smartgunners don't wear sleeves.

Neither do PIG gunners. 8)

LOL!! Well, in my own defense, I didn't wear the BDU top in the parade - just the green t-shirt. It was too damn hot in that steadicam rig outside anyway, hehe.

That is wise.

It's funny though- I'm sure the Phased plasma Infantry Gun in the Tech Manual was extrapolated from Hudson's line "(We've got) phased-plasma pulse rifles..."

Err... what exactly did he mean there? The PRs fire caseless rounds... bullets. Not plasma. Perhaps there is a Phased Infantry Gun in their armory? Hmmmm?

I think things should be left alone. Change is good if it is
an improvement and diversity breeds improvement.

My equipment will never be screen accurate.
I am a USCM but not one that was on screen.

Were here to have fun, so do it already !!!

I'm fairly certain what he ment was that a Pulse Rifle's round was set off by a plasma bursts, hence the electrical wine of the rifle. I think.

Could be...

However I thought that a PR was called a "pulse" rifle because it used an electrical charge (pulse) to set off the caseless round. Plasma is super-heated gas no? Guess we'll never know though- so no wrong answers here.

In Camerons story treatment and i think first draft of the script..( will have to check) the weapons the Marines had were very like the weapons they had in Terminator...in fact in the story treatment they use a pulse rifle to cut a hole in a wall.....so we nearly had a movie in which the Marines had Beam weapons..... which explains Hudsons speach...

Although I could sit here and knitpick Sean's smartgunner outfit all day long, I won't. ;)

Nor will I go out of my way to point out that my favorite Han Solo sometime prefers the comfort of sandals...

And speaking of... some smartgunners did wear shorts and sandals, right Kev? As everyone knows, it gets awfully hot in those Alien hives.
