Hey there!

I've just cut my PR pump grip to length and now want to cut out the ejector slot thingie on it. Now, I've seen several variations of this. First, and I believe most common, is this version:
Image
(picture from friendlyskies)

But I've also seen some not with a curve, but with a 45 degree "corner", and also at least one version where there's no curve or step at all and it's just a 90 degree corner.

Myself, I think the curved version looks quite good, but I'm also going for the hero 10-hole version that ripley holds in the movie. So does anybody know what's most accurate for that version?

Thanks in advance!

The SU 8 hole version here:

http://www.propstore.com/pulserifle.htm

has the curve as per the pic above.

Others may be styled differently due to how the piece was cut out.

Thanks for the link.

I just watched the Queen battle from the movie to see if there's something. Looks like the 10-hole version also had the curved cut, although it seems they even cut off the "line" on the grip at the very top. When she shoots it switches to the 8-hole version though, which has the curved cut too.

So curved it is then. I think I'll go for the look in the pic above. Don't need to cut the line too as per 10-hole hero. They probably did a rush-job on that anyways. :D

Xiwar,
The MIM version has the 45 degree cut. On my original spas grip I chose to go with the curved cut.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm going with the curved version, no question. I'm wondering about one thing though: In this picture:

the pump grip is way back. Judging from my Maruzen M870 racking action, the pump grip is not going that far back, it will rather be at about the position in this pic:

(Photo from propstore.com)

Now, does that mean that the airsoft M870 has less racking action? Or was the pumnp grip not properly attached in the first pic and therefore a lot further back? I mean, if I cut the ejector thingie in the pump grip, it will not line up with the ejector slot of the M870 but rather like in the second picture.

Just a little point; only post pics from other people's web sites when you have their permission, cos bandwidth costs money.

Duly noted! 8) Hosting them on photobucket now, I was not sure what is worse, direct linking or downloading them and linking them from my photobucket account. Well, I marked them so you know whose pics they are, so I hope that's OK.

So no one has a Maruzen M870 or knows how far you usually can rack the grenade launcher? Hmm...

Also, I'm still debating if I should sand down the seam line of the pump grip and then paint the whole thing or if I should live with the seam. What annoys me is that the seam is VERY ugly toward the rear end of the pump grip, so I'd really like to sand it a little. The surfaces where I had to cut the grip still have a lot of texture though and I can't seem to sand it down to be REALLY flat, so I'm not sure if it'll look better painted. I can't really see a downside though, since you won't see if the paint wears off, the whole thing is black!
Any input appreciated.

I will probably be able to pop into my Mother's tomorrow, which is where my PR is at the moment and as I said I will take a pic for you with the pump racked all the way back.

Cheers

Darren

OK some FACTS on the G/L.

The real steel M870 has a stoke of 100mm, this will let the cut out in the S.P.A.S grip to line up with the eject port that is cut into the S.P.A.S cage.

The Maruzen M870 has a stoke of 80mm so there a 20mm gap between the ejection port cut out and the full profile of the cut out on the S.P.A.S grip.

I know this as I measure it.

Thanks a lot to all of you!

Too bad it won't line up, but alas, it's nothing that you'd notice unless it was displayed with the shotgun being racked.

Still, it's always a thrill cutting up those perfectly good and damn expensive SPAS parts... good thing it worked without a problem. :D

Only thing will be to sand that seamline. Man, those guys at Franchi really didn't bother about looks, did they? That seamline is larger than the death star trench from Star Wars! Will have to sand that down and paint the whole thing then...

OK next thing up! I'm annoying, I know... :D

What is accurate to the 10-hole hero Pulse Rifle?

In this thread:
http://forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic.php?t=1345

uscmCorps says that the recessed screws thing is accurate, although the screen used 8-hole:

Image
(Picture from Harry Harris collection)

seems to have a metal plate with the screws wider apart. From movie stills, it's REALLY hard to tell what's on the 10-hole hero, although if I had to guess I'd say it's a metal plate with the wide screws.

Also (since I just might ignore the accuracy issue here and go with the nice recessed screw setup), how does one make such a recessed area? Dremel it out? Not with my SPAS pump grip! :P

The 10mm x 25mm plate is about 2mm think.

With Darren I did put the S.P.A.S grip on the milling machine and mill out the area for the plate to sit flush. The corners I used a range of scalpels to cut the edges out.

The S.P.A.S cage is a very nice plastic to machine!!!!

I hope this helps.
