The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So Im finishing my Hero PR and I guess I have come to the conclusion that there are no 2 screen used PR alike. Some have an upper front shroud plate and some dont. 8 hole vents VS 10 hole vents. Some have 3 rivits on the mag well and some dont. The PR on the Prop Store of London site has its entrails hanging out the back. Kind of nice to know that I have a little artistic freedom for the Silly String launcher.

ALL of the pulse rifles have the receiver sticking out the rear as near as I can tell. Many of the high quality replicas are inaccurate with this detail since they use the SD Studios shroud which was a recreation, not a "pull" off an original. I also believe the upper plates were added for Alien 3. They have various imperfections when you look for them. Many of the lines aren't very clean and some things are noticeably crooked. They weren't made on an assembly line. They are very custom. One thing I notice that people never get quite right are the grips though. Not a big deal. It's just an observation. IIRC the real grips were the original Thompson SMG grips, just reshaped/carved.

On the note of grips......I just re-sanded the airsoft grip. I found an online retailer who sells real wood furniture for the airsoft PR. One of the grips would then be easily sanded down to make a more accurate grip. But then again there is more than enough material on the plastic Airsoft grip to convert it.

I think I got my grip pretty close - but it's a real wooden one filed down :)

Also my thompson hangs out the back and my barrel is the correct diameter at the business end :)

Treeboar, the problem with a proper grip is no two are alike. I did see your thread but didn't have anything to contribute  Great pics though.

Yeah, I realise this...

Thing is, of all the different real grips, nobody has ever produced anything close to any of them.

Interesting thread!

So... what's the correct diameter?

From what I gather, the 10-hole hero (Ripley holding in her hands) PR had no upper front shroud plate. Probably no upper rear shroud plate too, but I'm speculating here...

Never noticed that before... Those are rivets? What PR's are they on?

Yeah, but I couldn't find out yet if the Ripley hero had that feature too...

Also, from all the screens I've seen of the hero Ripley one, I can not find out if the shroud triangles (side of the shroud, about above the shottie ejector port) were screwed/riveted on. From most pics, it seems there aren't any screws, but it could just be the lightning or resolution...

Well, as you *might* have figured out, I'm opting for the close-up PR as held by Ripley. :D

Xhiwar,
the below pic is from the propstore of london. It is a low res version that you can get the high res one on their website. The dashed white lines are of the mag guides that are rivited inside the gun. The red arrows are where the rivits are.
