The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello everyone,
I'm new here on the forum as you can probably tell
I was thinking of trying to make my own Colonial Marine helmet. It probably wont come out the best but it is worth a try.
I would like to know how big the plate of armor on front of the helmet is in inches from height, length and possibly width.
It would be great if anybody could tell the coardinations of the other extra parts added to the helmet.
What material should I use?
Any tips?
I am not really an amourer but I would like to have a shot at this.
It would be great if anyone could help me
Thanks!
Brandon

if you want your own USCM helmet at a great price then Spat is the man you seek :) He uses real M1 helmets just like the movie versions and you dont have to risk loosing any fingers cutting the metal yourself!!

also sorry to get picky but your sig is a little wrong, its "art" not "army".

other than that WELCOME ABOARD MARINE!

It all depends on what you want to make the helmet out of.

Are you going to use a real M1 helmet?

If so, you may not realise just how hard it is to cut/drill into them.

If you're making one from fibreglass/resin/plastic, then all the measurements would depend on how big the hemlet is anyway.

There's a thread in the archives where somebody made their own parts in aluminium to fit what I think is an M1 helmet:

http://forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic.php?t=2045

But if I was you I'd just order one from Spat and save many hours of work, possibly making a much poorer helmet anyway. :)

Here's a few shots of my 'Spelmet', all stripped of it's camo cover and stuff, ready for another forum person to repaint it:

Thanks for the compliments, guys!

And just remember Hudson, you're talking about cutting through a helmet made of hardened steel that is made to repel shrapnel and small arms fire. It's not an easy task, and can be very risky on your fingers for professionals, let alone 14 year olds.

You might be safer just gluing the parts to the helmet without cutting it. It won't look 100%, and there is a risk of parts popping off here and there, but it would be a lot easier, and won't require cutting through the helmet.

This man speaks from experience. 8)

A good quality epoxy (Araldite Rapid, etc.) could do a passable job for fixing stuff, just don't hit it on anything. :)

I just looked at a million pictures and drew on a line that looks right (IMHO)

I haven't decided what I'm going to make the plate out of yet.

I finished my helmet. I didn't make any armor or anything just messed around with my m1 helmet and a bunch of junk around the house and made one. it looks great!
I'll post it sometime once I get some pics and tell you all the weird little things I did to make it.
