The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

That's because they're part of their personal collection, and hence not for sale.

Although I'm sure they remain open to entertaining insane offers if some rich bloke were to shine enough coin in their eyes.

I'm digging the newer photos of the Sentry Gun. I just cannot seem to get enough of it. :D

Very cool pics, thanks for posting the link :D

I saw Hicks' shotgun at Alien War in London, but it looked like some kind of stunt version (made out of rubber or something). This one looks great.

The weapon itself is an Ithaca 12 guage pump action shotgun. The gun was altered for filming by having its original hand grip replaced with a World War II MP40 pistol grip. During filming the grip had gaffer tape wrapped around it – but this has sadly long since been removed.

At least these still exist!

How many prop weapons were destroyed or taken back down to their original parts after production wrapped?

We're lucky to be seeing any at all. Besides, I'm sure that these are now receiving the best care in the world.

Been there and seen them......that collection is well maintained. But I was sad to see the Alien heads that were salvaged are now showing the times.

The Smart gun was taken apart after filming and was found at bapty

Propstore bought it and had it restored

My guess would be that they needed an M37 with a folding stock for some other movie and none was available - so they came up with this. When Aliens came around they simply discarded the stock and wrapped the grip with tape to hide the hole.

Cheers,
Stefan

So, who's going to photoshop an MP40 folder onto an Ithica 37 for us? :D

The screenused Ithaca Model 37 in question was originally a hunting variant, and bears the etched hunting scenes on both sides of the receiver, common to Ithaca sporting guns.

It was NOT the short 13.5 " barreled 'Stakeout' variant, the barrel on the film weapon is longer (although still cut down from its original length) and has iron sights braised at the end.

Note that parts of the original shotgun stock woodwork is retained as a fixing point for the MP40 aluminium grip casting to mate to.

Some of the Aliens weapons in question (notably those based on a FA base weapon) could not be sold to or owned by private customers in the US, as although the stategic components have been altered/removed in accordance with UK law; the recievers are intact and would be regarded as NFA weapons under US law.

They would only survive confiscation/destruction by the BATFE, if they were held by a class-3 NFA dealer/business.
