The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Come to think of it Bro... I think you're right about the electric tape-

The more I look at screengrabs, production stills, etc...

Even though the Savanna case has one of those keyrings attached to it, it is not attached to his grenade strap by it. The case seems to be attached as you hypothesized- with the keyring dangling free. :)

That's a really good shot of it actually, I have to try to make a 1/6 scale one for my Hicks Hot Toys figure so this comes in handy. Thanks! :)

The second photo is of James Remar/ Hicks.

I'm not sure that Michael Biehn/ Hicks ever had his lighter attached by the snap hook.

Correct -- that is James Remar in that photo.

But since that's all of Michael Biehn's original Hicks armour and gear from very early in the production anyways, it's clear that this configuration was the original intent for the lighter attachment.

I guess now it's going to come down to everyone's personal preference. For the last two years I've simply hooked it on with the snap hook and nothing else. Of course that always made it easier for Brian to snatch it off my armour...

Image

I can just imagine the comments now...

DragonCon Dude #1: "Whoa! Did you see that guy's Hicks armour?"

DragonCon Dude #2: "No. Was it the Michael Biehn 'Hicks' or the James Remar 'Hicks'?"

Rick already beat me to the punch with a witty Remar vs Biehn comment...

But I'll post mine anyway.

1985:First day of shootting at Acton powerstation...

James Cameron (to James Remar): Yeah ummm- James that lighter case you are wearing. Unhook it from your armor epaulette; it looks stupid like that!

Remar: It's how I feel the character would wear it Jim. I'm going to play the character like this.

Cameron: Gale get someone anyone on the GD phone! I think Michael Biehn isn't doing anything this week.
Good-bye James!

Rest is history.

Actually, Kevin pretty much nailed it dead on.

After only a few days into shooting, it was officially reported that Cameron and Remar parted ways due to "artistic differences". Unofficially, it was due to the difference of opinion regarding the attachment of the snap-hook on the Savanna Bronica lighter case.

Actors can be so insensitive to a director's vision.

Actually, it was closer to 3.

Now I know why Hicks used electrical tape to secure his lighter -- one of his buddies kept trying to steal it.

You're not serious about it being about the Savanna case are you?

I knew Remar parted on sour terms- I was kidding about the lighter case.

You we're kidding right?

James Remar was ejected from the country shortly after filming began after some trouble with the law.

Just a thought... If the lighter was clipped to the shoulder plate, It would have given Hicks a hard time in the scene where he has to quickly strip off the armour after being splatted by acid.
