The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Anybody Heard the Term "Cameralien" Commonly Used?

I'm a big man so I have to win arguments on the internet! On another forum there's a particular member that insists on calling any aliens from Aliens "cameraliens" as if it's some sort of witty or clever concoction of the two words "Cameron" and "Alien" to denote that these are James Cameron designed aliens and not the original Giger's alien or any others.

This is like somebody scratching their nails on a chalk board to me. I swear I've never heard this before but this guy says it's a common term used on various discussion boards and has been for years. Nevermind that searching for the term doesn't even turn up one page worth of results and several of the hits are on the message board in question (Gearbox forums). It also seems to be his word of the month because he tries to work it into every post. I dunno there's just something about it that bugs me. Anybody else annoyed by this horrible conglomeration? It wreaks of "TomKat" and "Brangelina" stupidness to me! There's just something about it that bugs me. I hope he gets stung by a bee or something! A pox on him!

What do you guys say?! Am I wrong?

Thanks! I knew I wasn't crazy! I mean I'm not gonna argue with the guy any further about it (because it IS petty), but I knew it wasn't commonly used throughout the internet aliens community like he insisted! I just had to make sure.

Sounds to me like someone who has nothing better to do with his life except to make up words, claim "everyone" is using them, then dictating to everyone else that, if they aren't using it, they should be. Weiner.

This reminds of the time I almost had an arguement with a nut at D-con:

He knew for certain that the smartgun was a laser weapon. Claimed he read about it in the Tech Manual.

I couldn't be bother- so I did the polite head nod and "Really?" as if I didn't know better.

That term is Gayer than Tim Gunn and Richard Simmons making out at a Pride parade, both dressed in pink tafetta, being married in front of John Edwards.

Is the originator by chance a 16 year old kid or a 40something in his parents basement?

As a mod I don't think I'd take too well to folks calling the Cameron/Aliens warriors Cameraliens on the AL, in fact I propose a ruling that we NEVER use that word over here! ;)

Never heard that saying either. Guess i've been looking in the wrong forums all these years as well

This quote clinched it for me:

'You might traipse around to several Aliens fan sites. You'll find that Cameron's film hasn't aged as well as others in the eyes of the fans, both old and new.'

Yup hes a huge

On track, I have never, ever heard the term 'cameralien'.

Sounds like a cross between 'Camoflauge' and 'Alien' and that only happens when ABE the alien is feeling frisky! :)

man it looks like a french word meaning "something related to cameras" or something... I'd have never guessed it was talking about aliens at all.

if it was intended to be used to described aliens, then those aliens needs to be reporters or photographs...

You are thinking of the Papparaliens. They lurk and burst out of people's chests snapping pictures as famous people come near.

After reading that posting, it seems like since you stirred things up and brought it to the attention of everybody, they used it in their next posts...for half a day, and then forgot about it. I'd just leave it alone and think private thoughts about seeing them encounter either an "alien" or a "cameralien", or just about anything else.
