The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Birdie,

could you get us the exact model of your Polaroid like 635 CL (or simply everything that is written on the housing) ?

Cheers,
Stefan

WDI & Stefan my camera is a Polaroid Coolcam. Weirdly, I just realised that the seller sent me the wrong camera - I bid on a Polaroid Close-Up.

Gareth ... I checked again!
I am sorry but it is very difficult to see all details throuth the grill!

Look the photo below, that is DEFINITIVELY the correct piece!!!
(all one level and it doesn't continue :-))

Ok :-)!
Nothing was cut away...
the part you can see in photo below is the SAME under the grill, cut about in that way... from the entire part...
And the rectangular hole was "closed"...

I hope now I explained it better :-)

Bye
Giò

Closing the rectangular appature is easy just by placing a piece of plastic behind it. In the camera it was "closed" by thin, flimsy metal plates.

Interesting then that the Polaroid Coolcam wasn't exactly the right model as the section from my 635 is more accurate. However the coolcam seems to have that part from the smartgun headset.

So (assuming that part on the SG headset is from the same polaroid) we're probably looking at something other than the coolcam or my 635. Someone needs to buy yet another of the 600 series to try! :D

The sg cam part may be a red herring. The cool-cam is a much more recent model, and was not what I bid on. I've alerted the seller, but since the coolcam is in pieces, I doubt I have any recourse

btw, if the button part is correct, the coolcam was wrong on that, too.

Simon,

does the Coolcam have the closeup feature? That's an additional lens you can move into the light path for close up photos.

Cheers,
Stefan

No, it's totally different to the closeup. I was too keen to take it apart to re-check it against what I bid on. My bad.

Edit: According to Wikipedia the Coolcam is from 1988.

Possible of course, but it does look very much like it.
If I understand correctly where it is, I wonder which of the earlier 600 series may also have had it.

This website has lots of photo's of the various 600 models.
http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/landdcam-600.htm

I was going to start listing possible alternatives for potential buyers but it's getting long so I'll let everyone do their own research in that regard. :D

The ones I have found so far that don't appear correct are:
"OneStep" models.
The 637.
"Impulse" models.

Possible positives are:

The Spirit models. "Spirit", "Spirit 600CL" possibly other Spirit models.
The Sun600 LMS
"Job Pro"
"Amigo"

Basically, if it looks like this:

Image
It's on the right lines.
Note the "notch" on the silver fascia on the right hand side. That's the correct fascia - the notch is visable on the helmet sight.
Some models have this fascia in black.

Some of the 600 series don't have this fascia at all.

Also note the button since we need a part of that too...

Good thing is that these are really cheap.

You want to see something strange? Have a look here:

From the scratches on the helmet sight I'd say the body should be black.

Stefan

Yes, there are various models where that correct fascia is black.
I used a photo of the silver one because it is easier to see the important features. The shape is identical for the black ones too.

Simon,

if I look at the front plate of the coolcam, I think it has the closeup lens. There was a silder in the slot on the left side of the front plate wasn't it? I think this slider moves the closeup lens into the light path.
Correct?

Cheers,
Stefan

It's interesting to see that these are more expensive in the UK. Here in Germany they usually go for 1 Euro (aprox. 0.66GBP or 1.5USD).

Cheers,
Stefan

PS: I'd ask the seller if he really wants the camera back as he would have to pay for shipping and that's more than the actual value of the camera.

Not to mention it would require putting the damn thing back togther! :D

I originally intended to keep track of mine so that if I wanted to I could reassemble it. I quickly gave up on that!!

It didn't work, either. The battery pack from the film worked (power light illuminated), but the film cartrige was jammed in the camera and wouldn't eject. I had to dissemble the camera around it.

Off the topic of polaroids, has anyone considered that the vented box over the camera cone might be part of a power tool, like the Kango?

Actually it can be a piece of all kinds of stuff that needs air circualtion (e.g. almost everything with a somewhat stronger motor or transformer in it). Could be the back of a computer monitor/TV set, a power tool... you name it.

Cheers,
Stefan

Well, that was fun.
I got bored so I just reassembled my Polaroid Supercolour 635.
Some of it was tricky but I got it all.

But the mechanical parts cycle :D

Got my camera. It's a Polaroid 635 CL Supercolor with all black housing. Haven't found anything wrong with it yet.

Cheers,
Stefan

You should find all the parts there. Mine is the Supercolour 635, with the silver front.
