The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Remember what Devil Dog said when I suggested using a USMC Officer's (black) tunic?

Quote:
Good luck finding a USMC Officer's jacket.

Really I put the picture up as a "now there's something you don't see every day" kind of thing.

The one seller on ebay seems to be the only source- and these tunics are small and rare. :(

I mean- they are for military college students... as in young skinny kids.

Another thing- although they look black in the pic, they are much more blue. Not quite Air Force blue, but pretty blue. Kinda like the Dress Blues pic Dom posted:

Don't get me wrong; if we can find a source- terrific. Just might prove difficult finding ones in nearly mint condition, in everyone's size.

I could live with that blue (but no lighter than that).

Man, what are those epaulettes made out of? Looks like swatches from Finnegan's cadet uniform. ;)

Umm... I originally posted the Royal Military College pic (not the one above) as a "Hey look at this- it's neat!" thing.

For now, I'm going to have to crush your hopes and say that the chances of finding twenty some odd RMC tunics in all our sizes are next to nil.

But the Marine Corps was not founded on hopes and wishes...

The Marine Corps was founded on DOING!

So I emailed the seller- here is what I wrote:

Quote:
Hello- I realize this is a longshot but...
I am a member of a costuming group called the US Colonial Marine Corps. We are attempting to put together a custom "Dress Blues" uniform (based on the current USMC uniform). The RMC tunic would be great for our needs. If you could answer a few questions- it would be much appreciated.

How many of these do you have on hand (we need about 20)?

Are they all 40 inch or less? Is there any possiblity of larger sizes?

Do they all have the gold piping? Is there any with red? Or no piping at all?

Thank you for your time.
Kevin

Fingers crossed my Brothers!

UPDATE:

Quote:

Looks like I spoke too soon. :D

Here is the reply I received:

Quote:
HELLO KEVIN I,M PRETTY SURE I HAVE AT LEAST 15 IN THIS STYLE AND I KNOW OF ONE THAT IS OVER 40 THERE ARE SOME 38 ,37 AND THE LOWEST IS 36. THERE IS ONE 39.

I HAVE SOME OTHER JACKETS FROM RMC EXACTLY THE SAME AND LARGER BUT THE ARE EITHER BLACK OR HAVE A THIN RED STRIPE ON THEM BUT NOT THE GOLD BRAIDING.

I HAVE LOTS OF PANTS FROM 27 TO 40 INCH WAIST AND I HAVE OTHER ACCESSORIES LIKE THE PILL HATS AND STABEL BELTS AND SOME OTHER WHITE BELTS AND WHITE GLOVES NEW AND USED.YES THE LARGER ONES DO HAVE RED OR NO PIPING.THANKS MARTY

Did ya get that? He has this style of high collar coat in black with or without red pipiing!!! :D

Couple of things:

Even though the tunic already has siver buttons- they do have "Royal Military College" and some symbol ( can't remember what- maybe a Royal Crest) on them. We can switch them out for silver or gold buttons seeing as this isn't a USMC tunic.

We will be open to any combination of patches... or none at all!

So what do you think guys? Have we found our tunic at last?

Another thing- I can't believe this guy actually put my question in the description of the auction itself!

Not that I expect these jackets to be snapped up- but we might want to expedite things just in case.

So- if everyone likes this jacket as a less expensive custom alternative- please say so.

Image

(Remember he has this style in black with red piping).

Another thing- if we go with this, do you want me to handle the order as a group, or we contact this guy individually? If I do a group order, I will need this money for everyone's jacket up front, including a percentage for shipping to my place, and a second amount for shipping to everyone's destination.

If I handle a group order- I wouldn't want to leave who gets what size in someone else's hands (I can envision multiple wrong sizes sent to the wrong guys)- hence the need for a charge of shipping all the tunics to my house, and then a second charge to everyone's own place.

Or we could just contact the seller on a one on one basis, mentioning that we are a part of the US Colonial Marine Corps costuming group, asking for a specific size and jacket style (black with red piping etc).

Thoughts?

Holy crap... what're the prices for this?

I really dig the piping on the sleeves, too.

Very freaking cool, Kevin... you're my hero if this works. We just need feedback from everyone now!

Nice Find .

I would be up for either option, while the group order would intail just a tad more shipping charge, ie part of origanial the the part to out individual locals I would see as the best option.

Count me in especially if a 42 R Jacket can be had. hehe.

Thanks Derek! :D

As far as price goes- his ebay auction had a Buy It Now price of $54.99.

If I can get an idea of how many we need exactly, I might be able to talk this down to say... $50 each? No promises though.

I'm going to call the seller to find out how many of the ones that are black with red piping and sizes he has.

If necessary we might have to take some of the ones with no piping as we could add piping ourselves later?

So right now those interested- could you make a "copy and paste" list for me with your size needs please.

Example: 40S (short)/ 44L (long)/ 42R (regular)

-101 Radioman 42R

The seller replied to me today. He is going to need a few days to get together a proper inventory of what sizes he has on hand.

He also requested that the order be shipped to one location as it would be easiest. Really I can't see the additional charge for shipping being gigantic.

I'm going to call him tonight about prices.

KEEP THOSE SIZE REQUESTS COMING GUYS!!! :D

I'm up for this as the design is pretty cool and very difference than the USMC one but my concern is that we're getting these from a seemingly unsustainable source so future grunts wanting to get a dress uniform will have pretty much no chance of finding what they need.

Anyway - I'm on the list if there's enough of the over 40's

Hmmm... it is a good point.

I tried calling the seller late last night- but he wasn't in so I left a message (no big deal as he has always responded to my emails the same day).

I'll ask him about future availability. Best educated guess is that the seller is located in Kingston Ontario, which is also the location of the Royal Military College (going on the area code of his phone number). So I would hope that he does get these jackets from time to time.

Or if need be, I could try another army surplus store in Kingston (there are a couple) to see if they have any. This will have to be done over the web or phone though. Unfortunately Kingston is a 3 1/2 hour drive from my house- so it's not like I can just go and check it out on my day off.

Another thing I'll have to clarify with him is exact jacket sizes- do we need to order our normal jacket size (mine is 40S) or is the sizing different in some way? This goes by Rex's comment that although he wears a 42R jacket the USMC jacket he bought was too small and needed a 44R or 46R.

For now- just keep giving me your normal coat size.

BTW Kevin... is these tunics use the same size as any other CF clothing, the size number would be chest-height in inches. Mine would be 4873.

Thanks Dom!

If I go back to the store in Toronto- I'll check the label for the size and see if it works that way (can't see why it shouldn't- my old AC tunic is a size 6740).
