The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I think just using the coins themselves would look great (perhaps with a little polishing). Sarge's design looked neat, but showing the entire eagle doesn't evoke USCM like the Screaming Head does. And that saves on new tooling or whatever.

Honestly, I agree. That was my thought as well. My only suggestion is to see if we can hang it lower so it doesn't stick up above the cover.

Dom, didn't you say you had some of these bronze coins left? Do you have enough to cover the people who look like they are doing this?

A great idea!

The device could absolutely be brought down (I just went and did this by eye a second ago)... the only reason it's sticking up a bit in the pic is because the coin's literally being balanced on a small fabric bulge and that was the only way to do it.

A screw post would need to be affixed to the back of the coin.

True but pin backs and JB Weld can be bought cheap at Michaels and/or Wal-Mart.

PLus the PR or Smartr gun.

Seems even the police jacket not that bad.

I mentioned this before - it's $600 for a set of armour and helmet then there's the PR, Gerber, VP-70, BDU, Grenades and Motion Tracker!

I reckon we could do the entire uniform using the Marlow White uniform with custom buttons and insignia for a little over $500!

Not reusing any existing uniform as such and truly "inventing" the USCM dress uniform :D

This would also ensure that everyone's gear was exactly the same - no difference in colour or material (surplus is always bad for fading and other differences) and we'd know exactly what to buy and where from - if we have enough people interested we can certainly talk to Marlow White and see if they can do a deal, use slightly cheaper materials maybe??

I'm not saying that we all should have to shell out this much cash but I do believe that if we cut corners and make do with what we can then we won't be giving this costume the attention to detail that it deserves, after all; we wouldn't cut such corners in search of a screen accurate costume!

I agree. I was on-board fully with the Marlow White jacket in the very beginning... I'd still be willing to pay for it now.

Not to throw a monkey wrench in there but just remember the shoulder rig might negate the possibility of wearing a ship patch on the chest as it would cross over it.

That might be a good thing...maybe there wont be a need to use a ship patch if we use a Sam Browne...and Im all for a white SB belt...I think that would look awesome...or absolutely gay..take your pick;)

Well... someone do a... mock-up!

As long as it isn't "awesomely gay"... that'd be strange.

Now you guys want a white Sam Browne belt? :(

I really want to kill myself right about now (  ). Seeing as I suggested the Sam Browne belt so that we would be using a black belt and not a white belt.

The other reason was to steer away from the USMC look a bit because of the use of the USMC tunic.

But it seems that there is re-kindled interest in Marlow White. :)

I'm up for that too (as well as the white belt)- personally I agree that it would free us up as far as misrepresentation goes.

However looking over their payment/shipping terms, their may be an issue with me as an International customer (Dom and our UK'ers as well). Might have to ask one of the US grunts to aquire my uniform (with Paypal in advance of course) and ship it out to me up here in Canadana.

I know this might be a turn off to some of us as far as price goes- but can we have a show of hands who would be up for the original Marlow White jacket option?

I am with the Sarge ... I prefer the black Sam Browne belt myself. BUT, I have to admit I have not seen a white one. If anyone has pics, please share.

No physical ID, but the page says they come in white. However, I do think black would look fine.

I've never seen a white one either... but this thread is all about exploring options... ! :) A white full Sam Browne rig would certainly be unique.

I really like the shoulder rig. A whole lot.

To be perfectly honest, I'd rather buy the Marlow White jacket. I will, of course, go with the majority vote on this project.

But were the option available, I'd go that route.

White looks "marching band" to me. I like black. More military, more coolness. ;)

As for comparing the cost of this costume to that of the armor and everything that goes with it, well, the core costume SHOULD reflect a greater commitment of resources (money, effort, etc). I don't know about anyone else, but to me the dress blues are a fun "what the hell, why not" ancillary costume and as such I'm only prepared to devote a certain level of resources to it. Could be just me, though!

Can't do the white belt guys, sorry, just doesn't work for me.

If we had the "gaaack" Icon, I'd use it.

I do totally agree w/ the looks/feasiblity of the Marlowe jacket, but also do agree w/ Treadwell as well.

But, go for it guys, I think you'll make this an awesome, awesome outfit!!

Seems like the black belt is the way to go.

Rex, it sounds like you're bowing out? Don't do that!

Nooo, I'm not bowing out...admittedly, did think so for a bit. I really agree that something else might be better suited than the USMC jacket, but jeez, I just don't want to spend nearly $400 for a jacket...but I don't know that we can find a more affordable solution.

It would take alot of thinking to do the Marlowe...alot. I just don't know guys. You know how much I want to do this outfit.

A longer jacket (as opposed to an Ike jacket) with the Marine collar, sure keeps us in a higher $ bracket.

I'm open to suggestions, don't know what to do. I know I could save over the year for it, it's just a question if I want to dispense w/ my costume dollars that way.

Dammit...who said having fun was going to be hard?!

I really like the black belt (without the strap) - looks really good.

Instead of the strap how about a red braided cord instead?

They do a holster for the Sam Browne belt as well; dunno if it would be suitable for a VP-70 but I think a sidearm would be a nice touch for this uniform.

Rex has a point...the Ikes are offered at discounts of $189.00 if we order at least 10...just a thought.

Don't mean to sound pissy but-

If we do an Ike jacket... I will bow out. I want to look like a Marine.

Not a WWII Army "what unit is that suppossed to be?" guy.
