The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

oh good, then it might look good over the button then, as long as its on the same side as the dropship wings and ribbon things then. and then for some reason i think there should be a lanyard on the other shoulder the same colour as the piping on the jacket and trousers. i think that would tie in well.

Brasards aren't worn with dress uniforms.
To be honest, it wouldn't sit right on a dress jacket and I think would look out of place. Also, it wouldn't give us an advantage over simply putting the patches on the upper sleeve which we're tending away from due to space contraints.

My suggestion is (as I've said earlier) for either a "Colonial Marines" mudguard on the shoulder, as the RAF Regiment do:
Image

Or a "Colonial Marines" straight breast patch over the right pocket.

OK here' s where I stand on what's been discussed so far.

Totally up for the ship's patch on the pocket. Still like the custom mudguards on the shoulders.

I've got the link for the band uniform pants- however they will probably be expensive since they will have to be custom made (colour, stripe, and material choice):

http://www.ictuslimited.com/pdf/Band%20pants%20amd%20material.pdf

(PDF file)- There's no price on the custom made pants (the prices shown are for their standard pants which only come in black or white).

I didn't realize just how much they would be (prolly well over $50- more in the $75 to $100 range). So again affordability becomes an issue. And to find crimson/maroon dress pants on our own would probably be nigh impossible as we would not all be the exact same shade of dark red.

Much as I'd be up for the crimson pants- I just don't think they are do-able. Unless everyone is really over the moon about the custom pant colour. In which case I'll be saving my pennies. :D

I also agree that everyone gets the bloodstripe- not just NCOs and SNCOs.

Yeah- they do look smart:

 :D

(By the way- no photoshop here. Got the pic from this site: TandTuniforms.com. Unfortunately it's another high priced coat. )

It does however give you a pretty good idea of what the uniform will ultimately look like! Sharp indeed!! :D

Come to think of it- those pants aren't black, but navy blue! Unless I'm seeing things. :?

Still look good though!

I've addressed this before; the patch does not fully cover the creases... it looks bad.

Yeah, that actually looks like my original idea for the dress uniform.

Anyways, black pants with a red stripe are easy to get. I was just looking at one of the many police supply magazines they send us the other day, and saw that option. I think they were in the 30-45 dollar range with the stripe. If you really want a quote, I can go dig some up.

I do like both of these ideas, they're different than the existing patches and they'll look really smart on a dress uniform as that's what they're designed for.

The point I'm trying to make about the existing patches is that they're designed for the BDU and are recognised as such, putting them on the dress uniform without modification makes it look like we've bodged a costume IMHO.

If we use custom patches it will all fit together and work a treat, I'm not saying we should't have a ship patch - I'm just saying we shouldn't have that ship patch.

Another question I have: will we be using the M41A with this uniform? Would be awesome to fit a bayonet and covours to the PR for when on parade (like the SA-80's in that pic) :D

I was actually wondering if, for the parade, we could have most Marines in BDUs as normal, but a few (if willing) in dress as an Honor Guard...

I was thinking them same thing- only trouble is...

Have you ever seen these guys try to march in step?

Really we would only need three Marines for an Honor Guard- one for the flag and two for the banner. Maybe a fourth with a sword?

But what we are talking about is mimicking a precision drill unit with civilians. My concern is that the uniforms will look sharp, but the drill will look sloppy without a lot of practice.

I don't want to speak for anyone here, however of our group I know who could pull it off with little or no rehearsal. I could do it- but for the moment I'd like to be toting my PIG for the parade.

But I might change my mind once I have my full Dress Blues on looking at myself in the mirror.

You could viably allow for more though.

A banner party consisting of one carrying the "flag" (not sure what the USMC call it but to me it would be either a banner or a standard - not to be confused with the current long banner though) and two armed banner escorts.

Frank was is the Governor General's Footguards... so if we can convince him to take off that ridiculous Predator skin and wear a uniform for the parade... Plus Derek C... although we'd need a bit of inter-force drill compatibility to work out... have you ever seen Americans halt? No offence guys, but Commonwealth drill has the upper hand on this one. :)

USMC Silent Drill... on Canadian Army News, no less... :)

For sure these are excellent examples of awesome drill... but in truth, this is no less than I can teach any group of well disciplined and motivated Colonial Marines...

Except Rex.

But on a serious note, everyone in the dress blues should get crash course in drill... if you alredy haven't had one.

Ok while I was at work- I had the time to think about doing the Honor Guard/Drill Team.

I was about 75% sure about doing it.

After watching the videos...

I'm 100% sure! :D :D :D

It's been nearly 18 years since I have done drill back in my Air Cadet days (1989). And although I was a member of our Drill Team I was never a part of the Colour Guard (flag bearers).

But unless anyone objects- I would be proud to be our standard bearer! Just need a proper frog belt for it though.

I must say that I do like the rifle tossing by the USMC silent drill team! That stuff ROCKS!!

Kind hard to do that with an M41-A though... and God forbid we drop it.

sharpuscm wrote:

Actually I was thinking of Airborne Mike.

Hey someone ask him if he wants to join the drill team! :D

(I"m totally kidding Mike   ).

And I'm also joshing you too Dom- yeah, you were the first to come to mind! :D

But for the sake of looking ultracool on the parade grounds, can we keep it to basic drill movements for the time being? It's not like we can get together on the weekends and practice.

Also during the Queens Colour Squadron demonstration (which was also awesome) they do the slow march (really I should know the name of this- and I don't have my drill manual anymore. I know the others are quick march and double march).

Anyway- I figure I we would be doing that a lot for the parade considering the crawling pace it moves at.

But I guess we're getting ahead of ourselves?

You don't have a clue how jazzed I am about this!!!! :D  :D
