 Post subject: Live-Fire PR Update

We're getting ready to test fire my live-fire Pulse Rifle this weekend. I can't recall what I've posted so far, so here are the details of the build:

Base gun - Auto-Ordinance M1 Thompson (semiauto) with shortened barrel (Registered "Short Barreled Rifle). Only mod besides shortening the barrel was to turn down the barrel and add wrench flats for easier assembly/disassembly.

Launcher - Remington 760 in .30-06, also registered as an SBR. We went with the 760 instead of an 870 to get around prohibitions on short-barreled shotguns in Minnesota law. Added a Troy Claymore linear comp to increase the outer diameter of the barrel to closer to 12-gauge. SPAS cage is from a Tokyo Marui Airsoft, front block from SD Studios and pump from a Snow Wolf Airsoft.

Shrouds - HGC, milled to fit the Thompson

Barrel Vent - Matsuo (customized to fit the Thompson barrel) 10-hole

Stock - SD Studios

Still some additional work to do but it is coming together nicely and function checks have been successful.

Weights in at 18.6 pounds unloaded in its current configuration.

Test firing this weekend!

18.6lbs unloaded. I expect that may increase by a pound or so as I finish the build.

Hudson Arms is making pretty good SPAS cages, stocks and barrel vents. I understand they are working on shrouds too.

HGC shrouds are unicorns, but you can 3D print a set - the Paul's Boutique 3D print files are pretty nice. You can also 3D print the SPAS cage and some other parts.

Paid for about 20 hours of gunsmithing work, and my best guess is about 30-40 hours work in it so far.

So based on the parts list about 10k in the build or there abouts?

Figured out the locking mechanism for the stock and an optic mount. Going to start finishing and painting soon!

Some progress.

Re-profiled the pistol grip
Got the stock locking mechanism figured out
Swapped the plastic Tokyo Marui SPAS cage for a metal reproduction

Tested a coat of OD paint on the shrouds, will probably Cerakote most of the parts when the work is done. Still a lot of finishing to do.

So is the 760's receiver tapped to take the bolts securing it?

That is the thing I am most hung up on and don't see many clear descriptions of how people are mounting the GL guts. Someone told me you have to weld nuts on the top of the receiver to avoid altering structural integrity, but I can't see there being enough room for that. Tapping the receiver seems most logical but I'd hate for it to crack the whole thing after one shot if it did mess up the structural strength.

That's correct, the receiver is tapped for bolts that mount the gun to the Thompson's foregrip bracket. There is a spacer between the two guns. This is identical to the 870s I've seen.

For the most part. The 760 has smaller dimensions so fitting it to the SPAS cage was a little different. The SPAS cage cuts also need to be different to account for the 760's magazine. The 760's pump tube (where the magazine is on the 870) is also a smaller diameter.
