The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Roman,
your second picture shows how I think the original Front Block was done - as simple as possible. We always have to keep in mind that in the 80s CNC machines were not as common as today (where lots of people have their own 3D printer at home). Those parts were most probably done with a simple, hand operated milling machine. So they wouldn't do a complicated part unless absolutely necessary.
Same goes for the circular parts at the front - these were most probably not CNC machined circles. Instead, they simply (mis-)used a milling bit without a center cutter (e.g. the right one) as a drill bit to create the circles with the raised center:

Cheers
Stefan

The hand-machined process also goes a long way to explain why no two Pulse Rifles are exactly the same.

So, this being the left side, was there ever a right view photographed for this series?

Yes. I even posted the model for download some time ago, but can't find the thread.
It seems I'll have to revamp it though. :D

Echo4890, sorry for hijacking your thread somewhat. Back to your question:

Echo4890 wrote:
Specifically, was it blued or chrome, and was it a Flexitab model?

This is the best I got out of Photoshop, while it is still possible that the tab is there, I believe that there is in fact no tab, and that the carrier was blued.

Awesome! No problem on your discussion about the front block! Always good to learn more.

For some reason I can't post pics from my site anymore. I can do "upload attachment," but the direct image link won't work... Grrr...

So, in all that pictures the M870 did not have an barrel..., does that mean now all the hero builds need to build without the barrel?
Just asking.... :-)

These images make me all excited!

So to me it seems the 870 carrier does not have the "U" slot then, right? Even when changing the brightness and contrast of the pic, I can't see the slot, even though there seems to be something there where the white dot is...

Also: Look at the front block in that "below" shot. It extends into the slot of the SPAS cage! I never knew that! Is this to attach it to the SPAS cage somehow?

And it seems that the small connecting "tab" of the SPAS cage at the bottom near the trigger really was cut off.
I guess that disproves dr_slurpee's theory here: viewtopic.php?p=264258#p264258

So much new information! :D

Supports my idea that the 870 was assembled inside the cage rather than slid into the cage as a whole, which is one of the ideas I mentioned in that thread, it’s how mine is built currently. ;)

Loving this discussion!

That part is probably true, you‘re right (I don‘t get how the image adds further support to this though...)
But they did remove the connection at the bottom rear of the SPAS cage.

Just that the slot they cut into the back of the cage is not wide enough to allow the forward part of the trigger guard to slide through, there’s no way to slide an assembled 870 into the cage with that forward part of the trigger guard still there. The only way would be to bend the cage open enough to let it fit through, but that would probably cause it to not go back into shape easily especially with basically zero clearance for the 870 inside the cage. At the very least I would not be willing to test the theory on a real cage. Also the fact that they have holes for the trigger group pins in the cage implies to me that they put them in afterward.

U can bend that SPAS Cage with no problem.., it’s an weapon part, not a toy..
And yes, I did it maybe 100 times.., with 0 effect to the cage...

Hey Echo, have a look at this thread. Seems you've solved the case but might find this interesting still.
This build has the tab on it. Maybe it'll lead you somewhere or advance the discussion.

Mine has an airsoft 870, but but a very realistic one and I also cut the slot narrow on a real cage. The cage spreads apart just fine for the trigger guard to squeeze through then closes behind it without issue.

Nice! I think since a lot of people have completed their builds already maybe the Flexitab could be a later addition in the evolution of the PR, just like it was introduced to the real life 870 due to jamming problems. I'm glad we found the picture though! I'll probably be going for the movie look myself!
