The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

All,
The Sulaco as you know was painted various shades of blue for the movie, and it seems a little bright and in your face. The Aliens movie as a whole has a blueish tint to it, and I think it is likely that it is painted that way because of the shot. The blackness of space, therefore overemphasizing colors and shading so it shows as intended when viewing the movie.

In real life, if it were real, maybe not painted that way. Maybe grays with a hint of blue to it, but not the really bright blue shown on the filming miniature.

Thoughts? It seems like on Google there are a whole bunch of interpretations of it. I did not know if there was a general consensus of what the color should be.

They used blue lights for lighting. That changed the way they had to paint things. I am thinking a standard navy grey. As when you dig into things Cameron wanted an echo of Vietnam in the film which is partly why it struck a good chord with so many folks.

A steel gray? Slate gray? When I painted my Halcyon model years ago, I just used some shade of mid-gray for it and weathered the hell out of it. I have a large print hanging in front of me of the artwork from the Halcyon kit box and it looks like a light gray with all the panel lines weathered in black.

I think it is one of those where the color is one that you are happy with. Do you want to represent the actual prop or how it appears on screen? It can fall into the same debate as color of pulse rifle shroud. I am Brown Bess guy and all my equipment is in that color where others do green OD.

Thanks!

Greg

Jan did his papercraft model in the blue tone, I think. It looked really good (those curious can check the archives in the ship section).

While of course technically the blue filter contributed, from an in-universe kind of way I always kind of considered the blue tone to be a product of the star light and the blue 'space haze' effect of the shot, not actually it being blue. In my head it is always a dark gray though. Looks and feels right to me.

"eaglemoss" did their 10" Sulaco in gray. I own it and am pretty happy with it.

It's a grey/blue. You can clearly see it in Willie's pics and Bob Burns's pics.
