The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Funny - I did not realize how innovative and wise my props have been choosen for my fan film ALIEN: THE ADORA FILES, - until watching the proud speaking armorist John Bowring from ALIEN: Covenant ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhJQSUwcHEs ) - it seems to be that I did these things absolutely right - *joking* I mean...by using an uppercase title devided by a colon and by using a grey painted "Steyr Aug" as futuristic weapon xD! Hahaha haha :D

Perhaps it has already been said, but I prefer not knowing all the details about the origins of the xenos. The mystery adds to the xenomorph's menace as well as ups the tension. Kind of like the issue of whether to show the wampa in Empire Strikes Back. Lucas himself said some feel there is more of a threat to an unseen monster, but he wanted to show it in the special editions. It took away from that scene IMO. What Scott has done with these new films is the same effect writ large.

Plus I have not found the explanation in Prometheus and Covenant all that compelling. Too convoluted.

Honestly, if it'd been more in line with them being some ancient weapon to fight some equally awesomely designed elder god weapon, I wouldn't be complaining.

Yeah, like William Gibson's line in his Alien3 script about them being created as part of an ancient arms race.

I know some folks are still holding out hope for a retcon of this (and the Space Jockey) in the next Alien film, but I woudn't hold my breath. Really the only thing that keeps that a possibility is the fact that at the end of Covenant we are flying away from the Juggernaut. While the Juggernaut and the Derelict were never the same ship it means we need to find another Engineer/Jockey outpost if we're going to connect up with Alien. If we don't then David's aliens can't be the same as what we saw in the original film.

Too true, and given the relative disappointing financial returns for Covenant, we may not see another film for some time.

At least with Covenant they (sorta) realized people wanted good action/bug hunts with their Alien film. Put more emphasis on that and you might entice audiences back. Heck they even knew that for Alien Resurrection (ok the "good" there is debatable).

Or, you know, bring back the Colonial Marines
