The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Where ya at in gettin' your gear ready?

Here's where I'm at:

Wrestled apart Spat's armor. I can attest to the high quality of craftsmanship that goes into these bad boys! It was a _____to get those rivets and webbing off!!

5 coats of silver have been applied to all armor.

The green camo has been applied.

Helmet cam has been painted Bess Brown.
Helmet liner fits, looks kewel.

It awaits retro fit of lobster plates.

(Sorry Spat, your real steel pot is friggin' awesome, but just too heavy to tote about the Con. Going w/ a lightweight version.)

Still need to:
Apply Black Paint.
Apply Yellowish Paint.
Apply Bess Brown Paint.
Apply Silver Swirlies paint.

Learn how to operate sewing machine and sew patches to velcro, then velcro to uniform.

Pouches, webgear, pistol holster and boots are all ready! 8)

How about it Marines? What state of readiness is your gear?

-Rex

Nearly done!

Just have to put the SSgt rank on my vest. I decided to put on the left pocket (where the Delta patch is located on Drake's vest).

Chose that spot as it would follow a bit of a pattern- the right side has the Screaming Eagle, the left has the US flag and SSgt rank- just as it would appear on the right and left shoulders of Apone's BDUs.

I thought over whether or not to put the rank on there at all- ultimately decided I can't give up my knickname just yet.

Still have to take my 2PAT BDU pants to the tailor to get them taken in a bit (if they can do anything with them at all). Guess I really need to get my ass in gear for that!

And like I mentioned in my Pulsemeters thread- I'm going to add a sticker to my resin Pulsemeter, and paint the touch sensor silver to make it a little more screen accurate.

Otherwise I'm good to GO!! :D

Oh I might have to grab a set of lexan dog tags too.

Oh I almost forgot-

I'm still putting together my Hypersleep impression. So far I have...

The slippers.

WHY ARE THERE NO OD GREEN (OR ANY FREAKIN' SHADE OF GREEN) BOXER SHORTS NEAR ME?!?!?

Anyway- there is still one last army surplus store to check here- otherwise I'll either have to go to Toronto, or settle for any freakin' shorts that are green (and not lime green)!

Marine Corps Issue PT shorts... check (Gotta love the Navy Exhange )
Shower shoes (in place of slippers)... check. I could go get some fuzzy slippers if we decide to all do that as a group, though ^_^
Electrodes... bout to order a bunch unless anyone else has bought a box of fifty and wants to share.

Now for the main costume-
M-56 Smartgun... parts prepped and ready for painting and assembly. Still waiting on a couple accessory parts from Matsuo, waiting on a response from a board member about the popgun I need for the battery, and still need to figure out how to attach the drum mag. (resin feed tray won't hold the weight.) Other than that it's golden.

Head-Mounted Sight... not gonna happen this con, too much other stuff to work on, life is too busy to stress about it, and Jesse is unable to get to his molds for the eyepiece anyway. At least I'll have plenty of the parts I need already when I'm ready to tackle it again. I'll be wearing a regular mike headset this time around, underneath a Vietnam field cover and goggles a la the technical manual concept art :)

Vest and Arm... Arm is almost ready for assembly - I've been held up by the search for a positively ridiculous size of drill bit (55/64") needed for the bearing holes. I'm very excited about seeing this thing come together though! As for the vest itself, I've got a special surprise in store for everyone :D Huge props to Jesse DeGraff for his assistance, and to Ripstick for his ingenious "poor man's chestplate" idea.

And everything else...
2PAT camos... check, patches in place. I'll weather them if I have time.
M1969 flak vest... check, bout to stuff it with 1/2" foam in place of the flak liner and sew it back shut.
Gloves... check.
Sidearm and holster... check.

...I think that's everything, lol.

All painting done. Weathering by sandpaper has begun.
It's turning out pretty good, very happy with the results.
A black wash to follow to "set" the colors and age the weathering. A light sandpapering to "freshen" any particular spots of weathering.

Lucky bastard! (And I mean that in the nicest way   ).

I'm driving down again this year. I'm just too paranoid of trying to take the PIG on a plane.

PIG on a plane... There's a joke in there somewhere...

A Canadian gets on a plane with a pig...

Oh well. I'll just say what I always say.

Next year I'll fly.

Time is runnin' close...putting myself into hyperdrive now.

Startin' to stress...still don't know how to use a sewing machine to sew patches on...Tuesday is day to have armor strapped up....looking at new camloc buckles for shin armor, that will be great, no more slippage!!

Still need to fit armor to legs for Batsuit-

Re-color Endor Commando outfit-
Receive Endor Commando "donut" and build and paint it-
Receive Endor Commando Boots-
Got massively outbid on Endor Commando leggings-

Sew patches on RE Centurion vest-
Modify facemask for RE Centurion

Take picture of self for use in Deathstar Construction Worker ID Badge

I would be driving but didn't give my boss the exact dates, just what month and where - my fault.
Luckily Cherie was able to sort herself out and drive down.

Rex..........sewing machine for patches?
Why not just use a good old needle and thread?
So much more personal and if you're lucky you can actually add 'blood' to the 'blood, sweat & tears went into this costume'

Gotta agree with Tony, Rex- why not sew them on by hand?

It's not hard really. Besides it does give you that feeling of it being personal. 8)

Still have to sew that SSgt rank on- gonna do it tonight! :D

As far as other costumes go- one of them is out: no Wolverine for me this year!

Might even leave the Captain at home too...

Naaaaah!!!!

Well, my armor is as ready as ever, so that's not a problem. I'm actually bringing down a Pulse Rifle and my helmet for the parade.

Still working on my Sunday night costume. Got a few more bits to do with that.

Otherwise, just going down there as my usual cool self.

:)

I just finished tapping out threads on the "bones" for the arm segments, man what a pain! At least it's only aluminum, I couldn't imagine what that'd be like it was something like tool-grade steel

One more huge pain in the butt outta the way! I found the Ridonkulously Sized(tm) drill press bits I needed for the fitting the bearings, as well, so the arm should be finished soon. I think I'll paint my gun tomorrow :)

WHICH REMINDS ME... I need your help for a very special mission: figuring out what to name my smarty! Going with the character nickname Troy gave me, I've been thinking about keeping to a somewhat Shakespearean naming theme. If I'm gonna be "Romeo" then I guess my gun should be named "Juliet"! ...Or maybe "Rosaline"?

I'm thinking about putting "Fortune's Fool" or "A Plague On Both Your Houses" on my armor plate too. Thoughts?

That needle and thread stuff....ohmy  dunno if I can do that again!! LOL!

I tried fabri-tac, usually reliable, but not this case, kept coming off...

A Shakesperean nickname?! Oh cool! Both sound good, I like 'em!

You should have "Rosaline" crossed out with "Juliet" next to it.

At Michaels you can get this stuff that comes in sheets, you cut it in the shape of the patch, stick it to the patch, then you can iron-on the patch to the shirt, and they will hold. We did this for temp patches for a fan film about 2 years ago, and they are still on the costumes.

I don't remember what the material is called, but I know it's cheap!

Juliet sounds cool to go with Romeo of course.

Otherwise, to mix the plays, I'd say call the gun "Shylock". Plenty of possibilities with the "pound of flesh" and "Do we not bleed?" lines. :)

I'm sticking with R&J references if I can. There's a joke behind the name... my old roommate Troy (a friend of TentacleChris's) used to grossly exaggerate my... uhm... romantic endeavors just to be funny, lol. Came from an episode where they found some unrecognized unmentionables in the wash, lmao - turned out to be theirs, but at first they thought I'd had a "guest" who'd left something behind, LMAO! From that point on he would introduce me to guests as "this is our roommate Sean, he brings home a new girl every night." Got to be a kind of running joke that reared its ugly head yet again when I was looking for suggestions to develop my USCM character.

Hence, "Romeo."
