The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Building a set of armor......PIC intensive
PostPosted: Fri Aug 17, 2007 12:24 am
I am building a set of Hicks armor from MAA. Its fiberglass...not too bad. It needs some modifications if it is going to be con worthy.

I will be building the helmet first. I always start with the helmet. Dont know why. I guess because it does not take too long to get a finished product.

Let me start with the ear piece.

This is what I got in the kit.

I cleaned up the casting. Added metal brackets (door hnges that I cut to size). Opened up the botton and the slots.

I still need some more wet sanding...maybe a bit more putty...but this is where it stands now.

Next I will work on the spot where this piece attaches to the helmet.

Don't you have a set of Terry English armour Steve, or is that not to be worn at cons?

This should be a great thread, I've got the same set (bought before the great upheaval) and hope to begin work on it maybe within the next year.

 Post subject: Helmet

Ok...this is where I am focusing my attention.

I want to make the area where the ear flap attaches sharper. I will probably use bondo to create the look I want. I will drill out the rivets and add real ones so they are nice and sharp.

The "bump" at the bottom...well I am going to cut it off..and add a piece of door hinge so it can hook into the ear part I fixed.

This way it will be nice and strong for costuming, as well as look good. I wont be able to get much done this weekend...going on vacation for a week. May take the helmet to work on a bit while I am there.

I sitll have not decided if I will try and fit a real helmet liner into this helmet. I may just add padding. Will have to wait and see how it all goes together.

Oh yeah I drilled out the rivets on the ear piece and replaced them with real ones. They look 100 times better.
