The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Today I decided to look through vintage flash lights on eBay to see if I could spot anything like the ones used in ALIEN. Well, I didn't find anything so far, but in the process I think I may have landed on the right track for part of the cattle prod.

The battery looks a lot like these signal flashlights.

Yeah i think you could be on to something there DSB. Another possibility is that it could actually be a battery pack but for a vintage flash, i know some of the old flashes actually had large separate packs to power them.

That would make sense considering the box used on the cattle prod doesn't have a hole where the light bulb and reflective dish would be. Do any of the camera flash batteries have a handle on them like we see on the cattle prod battery?

Not that i've seen, most of the battery packs have shoulder straps. But i noticed this one, obviously not correct but it does feature the three 'sliders / channels'

I defiantly think you're on to it being vintage photography related

The three greebles are actually Hornby parts.

They were also used on the flamethrower and shuttle.

Good eye Quarax! I remember you pointing them out on the Narcissus one time.

The image isn't working for me, what parts are you speaking about?

The three rectangles with the pair of slots in each are model train parts and also appear on the side of the flame thrower and above the door of the Narcissus model.

The box looks like a small portable radio to me, the handle gives it away. What make and/or model: no idea!

O.k., I see what you are talking about.

And the fact that those are parts from a model throw the I.D. of this off track! :( It would help if we had photos of the back of the box, but I've never seen any.

It could also be a block of wood...

Went through the good old Alien Anthology and found some picture of the boxes, including one of the back (fixed):

If it's not a radio then it my well be a 'project box'.

A project box from a UK electronics supply store will probably be equally hard to determine.

And what is that red "thing" on the lower front face? I thought at first it was that one crew insignia pin but those pictures posted by Quarax (thank you!) don't show the horizontal gold bars that it would otherwise have.

And those Hornby parts, are those easy to come by?

I could build one easy in 3D. Or at least the nurnies and greeblies that are on the box itself and you guys just stick em to whatever box you may find suitable. If you are interested in it, this should not take too long and I am willing to help out. You'd have to print the stuff yourself at your printing service of choice, but I can definately provide the data if needed.

I certainly appreciate that offer! The only problem I see is we don't have a good idea of how big it should be.

If we could get the earlier poster to give us dimensions of the train part that was used, that would be a good start.
