The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

As Nick said, try putting it on wet. They seem to tighten a little as they dry out.

Thanks man! I still am torn, on or off. I'll definitely try the trick with water soon.

If it's any help I also prefer it with the cover off.

After careful consideration I do, too. Off it is for now, but it's nice to have options. I was thinking of building a lighter helmet for conventions...maybe that's where I'll use the cover to hide the fact it won't be metal.

Hi Dennis,

Initially, I was also bothered by the weight of the helmet.
However, after fiddeling with the adjustment straps in the liner for some time, I found a setting which actually made the helmet quite comfortable to wear.
I've worn it for a hole day on several occasions (Cons, LARPs) and never had any trouble with it's weight again.
I wish I could give you some more detailed information for the fitting process, but it was all trail and error at the time.
I haven't dared to mess with straps ever since.

Cheers,
Stefan

After your first summer Con with a metal helmet you just might want to use a lighter helmet.
Second this. I have both version with and without cover.

Thanks Stefan, I will see that I will find a setting of the liner straps that will make my lid as comfy as possible. Still, compared to plastic helmets... ;)

There's pros and cons, examples: pro, they are light. Con: they are not what they wore in the movie. ;) But I am used to wear plastic helmets thanks to SW costuming, that's what I was trying to say.

I would not consider they did not wear plastic in the movie a con once you put a cover on who is going to know

Only the future will tell if a metal helmet will be too heavy for my melon/neck.

He he, that's what I feared, hence my plan. A plastic helmet will be an easy addition to the ensemble.

you get used to steel, I have done ww2 and Vietnam re enactment for many years which has included wearing a steel pot all day every day for a couple of weeks at a time, personally I wouldn't even consider a plastic one but each to his own, and although you have done a good job on your helmet I prefer the helmet cover look.

Having both is a good idea, but personally I'd never trade in my steel pots.

Thanks guys, it was a blast indeed - but too few marines. I was mostly patroling the con floors with my fellow stormtroopers and TIE pilots because the other guys were on stand duty. ;)

But what a ride. The gear is way more comfy than I expected, but the steel lid and metal PR are a different story. :D After the RPC I worked out a few kinks (floppy shoulder light, floppy PR GL slide) and am already looking for future drop dates near me.

Hi Obi,

your Marine looks really great and the Troop with you was really fun!
The child wanted to know all about your armor was particularly good. :D
I'm looking forward if we are finally three of us traveling.
