The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Does every Marine carry a side arm?
What is the holster they use?
Thanks again,

Rob

Usual one (as in the film) is the VP70, a version of which is available from here:

Corporal Beaudoin's USCM Quartermaster Stores. 8)

The holster is a hip/thigh fitted one, with quilted outer cover.

Thanks for the plug... :)

Alternatively, there's the Tanio Koba airsoft... Here's a comparison of the VP-70 I sell and the TK VP-70

Not an exact match, but close enough to have gotten me in hot water with US Customs agents one fateful Thanksgiving day...

Didn't Vasquez have a non-VP70? In a shoulder holster at that.

The Tech Manual says that a 1911 is a good sidearm.

Yes she did John, and Matsucorp has a thread here (sorry I'm at work and can't find it yet) where he made a superb one. It is flat out in-cred-i-ble!!

See, good variants all.

Since myself and Profiler will be going like Sarge (the flak vest route) I'm thinking shoulder holster for my sidearm. Just to mix it up a bit.

From talking to stephen210 and checking out Apone's armor at the PropStore I believe the holster is a Hoyt holster. (or was it Boyt?)

Either way, that's what they are :)

Also, if you want to go "Expanded Universe" like the tech manual, in the AvP2 PC game, the marine uses what looks like an H&K MK23 Socom with LAM unit, but missing the suppressor.

This would fit well with the VP as the other sidearm... Go HK!

Just a heads-up, there's a screen accurate MGC VP-70 on eBay at the moment. Good seller, too. :)

That wasn't it, you know what got you in trouble. Instead of calling these toys "toys", you told the agent they were "replica firearms". ;)

Just to say it- Vasquez's sidearm is a Smith & Wesson M39:

Image

Of course- her's had ivory grips.

I think the M1911 in the Tech Manual is actually there because of the misconception that Vasquez's sidearm was a 1911, due to the similarities.

2 types that I know of.

Frost and Apone use a quilted Fabric Holster for the VP-70

This is my sample that I built based on reference picts.

I think you can get replicas still at: www.scifimilitary.com

Vas uses a leather Holster for here S&W M39.

User Docholl (not sure if he migrated to the new board) had
a black leather US GI tanker holster that looked good.

Matt, did you happen to make plans/measurements of that
holster? It might be nice information to have for those who'd like to
sew it themselves rather than buy "off the rack" if they're hurting
for cash.

And nice job too!

Thanks Rook.

Not sure if my sample maker has her patterns still.

I just design soft goods, I can't sew.

I'll check.

Here's my own "M4A4" pistol from the AvP2 game:

Image

It's basically a Sig P226 variant with a light unit. Not exactly to game specs, but fits nicely.

I wish I'd have gotten in on the bulk buy of the airsoft gun a while back. It was before I was a Colonial Marine, and before I played Airsoft, so go figure why I didn't jump on it. If only I'd known!

Oh I like that. That definetly would make a better sidearm than what I've got planned. Well atleast till I can get my hands on a VP70 prop. It is an airsoft version of a Sig P226 I belive.

Ive used various diff sidearms from a BSG S1 blaster or a 1911 to a H&K USP. I think it's pretty cool to use anything you like. The more impressive the better..:)
