Ok, Marines. Spring is around the corner. That's a good lead time to start discussing upcoming acquisitions for the fan table. This year I am proposing several new items. (PROPOSING, as in just presenting to Table leader and AL community for consideration)
First a TABLE BANNER. Using the parade banner is not appropriate as it is way too big, dangles on the floor and is usually duct taped to the table. This is will take a serious toll on its wear and tear. This banner will be smaller in size to better be accommodated to the fan table (6x2).
Mike R. has already started the process on this. It should be complete soon.Second a RETRACTABLE BANNER STAND DISPLAY. This is a big more ambitious and expensive. Very similar to what you see in the photo here courtesy of the UKCM. Design criteria will include the following:
1. Be dedicated to being recruitment themed. Based on typical recruitment posters we’ve all seen before but with a sci-fi ‘Aliens’ influence (Paul, this is where you come in
. It will be generic colonial marine design, perhaps including all the national logo/seals as seen on our parade banner.
2. It will have images of marines standing together wearing various uniforms (smartgunner, pilot, dress C, standard armor).
3. Possible captions to say; “COLONIAL MARINES NEED YOU”, “ENLIST HERE”, “DEFENDERS OF EARTH”, “Every Formation a Parade”, Etc, Etc…. So many possibilities we’ll decide together.
Of course we’ll need models to pose for photographs. They can be done separate depending who they are. Paul should be able to blend them together. I already have a smartgunner model that we’ll prolly all agree would be perfect (and you know who you are!). I recommend the size to be approx. 80”x33”, that’s over 6 ft tall. It’s a more expensive size, but better option. Price will be a bit over $100, maybe less.

Finally, RECUITMENT PLACARDS/POSTERS. We won’t need to many. Perhaps a dozen or so to stand on the table or staple/mount in our area. They should be slightly larger than standard 8.5x11. I’m looking at them being printed on thin cardboard like material, not standard paper. See the attached photo for what I have in mind. This will be of very little cost to print these out. And of course, it will be generic and include all national logos on the bottom. WE WOULD NOT USE THIS EXACT IMAGE OR ANYTHING RESEMBLING UNLESS RECIEVING CONSENT FROM ORIGINAL ARTIST.

**Note: I’ve discussed these ideas with a fellow Marine at D*con last year. She suggested she might be able to help with these projects as she was employed with a company that might provide some of these items at a reduced cost. I will confirm with her what exactly can be done.
I intend the front most of the cost of the retractable standee and display placards/posters. I am not asking for any contributions regarding those items. If you wish to assist me in offsetting the cost, then by all means, I welcome it. Just contact me privately. But please, CONTRIBUTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED! As for the retractable banner stand, I will wait until there is a positive reception from the group before moving forward, as it will require many of us to rally together to contribute funds. This is also depending on Paul. I cannot assume he has time to do the graphic design. I will coordinate with him if and when he decides this is a project he’ll be willing to undertake. Let’s get the ball rolling on this. I need ideas and feedback. Thanks again and get ready for that express elevator to hell. It’s coming up fast!
