Received my Xeno kit and finally got around to give it a look. I'm not quite sure how to trim the mouth area . . . any suggestions?

Hey! Welcome to the hive!

You kinda need to just slice it flush with scissors and a serrated knife, removing enough so the top teeth can be stuck on and make the teeth straight. I'd suggest you pin the bottom jaw in place before you glue the top teeth down so you can get the bite nice.

At any rate, what does everyone recommend to use to attach the latex pieces to the dive suit? DAP cement? Liquid latex?

The best I found was contact adhesive. In the UK, it is sold under the Evosik brand (owned by US company Bostik) but I am unsure if it's available in the US...

It's the full-fat solvent version (the solvent-free white stuff is rubbish). Contact adhesive needs to be put on both surfaces and allowed to dry before pushing them together.

Does the bottle of Jack come with it?

That's a hell of a lot of flashing on that Xeno... More than was on mine.

I've got a pair of these that I use for the main trimming.

They're actually my thread trimming scissors, but they work great on the flashing.

Get the most of it off with those, then for any final bits to get rid of, use a cotton wheel on a dremel. Takes the latex right off.


That'll help you make short work of all the trimming. And there is a lot of it.

Next question: How do y'all attach the tail to the suit? Rhonda suggested a leather belt. Any other methods or tricks?

An alien called Gary who I met at Dcon had a copper rod in his tail so it was flexible and straight, keeping it off the ground, a bit like a raptor tail, great idea! My old xeno tail was attached to the back piece. I sewed the back part of a cut up backpack into the back of the alien chest piece so it took the weight off my neck, the straps from the backpack went over my arms and there was a stomach strap too.

Years back I made a rigid tail which had stiff wires inside 3/4 of its length. However the harness needed to be tighter than my tummy could bear and it seemed to be a liability for whacking people and things. And despite the wire being springy, it didn't swing how I wanted. So I never used it and then replaced the rigidity with a cooling fan.

What sort of harness are people using for their rigid tails?

Lay the tail flat at the thick end slice through then cut your undersuit feed the belt through.I find it very comfortable never had any issues with mine

But your tail isn't self-supporting right?

Because of my sensitive abdomen, the aim for my current tail was to make it secure without having any belts or harness at all - I reinforced the back of the suit so the tail just attached to the body suit, and then I have a fishing line supporting it from the back.

Here's a picture of my rig.





I made it myself. It's based on a Biathlon style rifle carrier. I've used these for many years and they're incredibly comfortable.

It looks funny on my mannequin because it's 5'8" and 5 stone wet through, whereas I am a little beefier than that.

All of the weight is distributed to the shoulders and the hips via the straps. The base of the tail is attached to the hip strap and padded with neoprene. The wide straps reduce any pressure. The top of the tang for the tail free floats and allows me to bend without pulling on the straps.

The tang is hidden underneath the horns and isn't visible when it's all on.

The tang is a bit of Alcathene pipe (the stuff they use for plumbing), with a thin steel rod inside, so I can shape it to retain a curve.
It's not fixed, so it is still flexible laterally so no worries about bashing into people.
