I'm stripping down a Kango 426 for Motion Tracker conversion; I've only done this once before a long time ago and so I can't remember how to take this part off to access the circlip that removes the drive-shaft. Help! ;)

I looked at that earlier Steve but it's unclear about how to remove that black part.

It's been a long time since i did it too but don't you pull back that part towards the body and unscrew the centre section ?

It does turn but i wasn't sure that it unscrewed. Do I have to stop the main shaft from rotating (ie the part that's inside the body casing)?

And is it a left hand Screw? Think (old) drills were to stop the chuck unthreading when running.

Ah, cool, thanks Martin.

Osomtic also suggested that there might be a screw inside the chuck so I'll check both of those out and let you know.

I ended up putting a hacksaw to the whole front bit. Spent a full evening cursing at those circlips, and when I'd finally fished all of them out of it I still couldn't get the drive shaft out. Reading above I may have missed some element of the disassembly.. but hey. If you can't get it out of there, just cut around the drive shaft(no need to cut through the sucker itself) where you'll be removing the head of the drill from the body anyways. Worked like a charm for me.

Push part 2 back against spring 3 and use pliers to remove part 1 from shaft 5.

Now, does anyone know how to remove shaft 5 or part 9?:

Don't know what bit your up to. But I think you will have to remove the hammer drill rotting switch by unscrewing the knob then knocking out the cotter pin or whatever its called with a nail. Pull that part out. Then the shaft should pull out if i remember correctly. Been a while since I did mine.

Thanks. Is this the cotter pin?:

That's a rolled pin (#63?), you should be able to knock it out.

I think that red plastic end comes off if i remember correctly and it exposes a large cir-clip that you have to remove as well

The red part only has a bit of room to move left and right. It doesn't seem to just come off.

The red cap does come off. Cant remember how. Mine is in a box with no damage to it. So give it a little love and put your back into it. You can't damage anything up at that end as you will be cutting it off. there should be some large cir clips as well in the front end.

Never done this, but looking at the drawing, if that is part 9 does it attach to part 13 with a sort of bayonet cap (seen on 13).
If so do you push it back (sprung with 10) and turn it anti-clockwise? :?

Well, that wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. Punkmarine is right, it's attached with a bayonet cap. You have to spin it counterclockwise (when the front of the drill is facing you) until it stops moving, then push down on it and spin it counterclockwise again (while still pushing down on it). You might have to remove the grip first, though. I've got to deal with circlips now. :(

I'm still stuck.

I've removed the switch assembly (62, 63 etc.) and I can release part 9 on it's bayonet fixing, but I still don't know how to remove parts 1 and 2. Do I just have to prise part 1 off of shaft 5 forcibly?

Harry
