The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Thanks for the heads up on the flame units, I'll check it out.

Larry Lars designed the definitive APC and Power Loader. I've built his 'Loader, but the APC requires a lot of pieces I just don't have. Seeing your build is making me think I need to start stealing parts from my son!

You're exactly right about keeping sales threads off the main board. When you've gotten a little more established you can sell on the PX thread.

Thanks retrogarde.

Building this APC isn't easy. Larry Lars made some great pics of his original APC. The most helpful pictures are the exploded view and the detailed picture of the complicated side door. But since there are no building instructions it takes time and trial&error to figure this out.

I started with 2 APCs. One in black (because I have the best selection of parts in that color) and one in dark bluish grey. I was able to complete the black version, but I still need some parts for the other version. I hope I can complete it in the next few weeks. That outstanding power loader is next on my list.
I agree with you that these are the definitive versions of APC and Power Loader. It's an fantastic work Larry Lars did there. And when you build the APC you'll find out it is not only looking damn good it's also build very clever too.

Man you guys are killing me. I badly want a LEGO APC and powerloader but lack ANY LEGO parts.

And I once asked if anyone had instructions on how to build these on a LEGO forum and promptly got my ass chewed out for it.

Really? That's foolish. I'll admit it is a pain to document the building process, but there's nothing proprietary about it. Look at Larry Lars: he's a really humble guy with an immense talent for thinking outside the box with Lego bricks, but he doesn't waste time trying to claim ownership of his designs, instead everyone *gives* him credit because they really are that good. He earns his reputation instead of demanding recognition.

Yeah, the whole thing resulted in a brief cross-forum war.

I will admit in hindsight that outright asking for instructions wasn't the right thing to do, but what else was I supposed to do? I guess exactly what I'd have to do now...buy a bunch of bricks and trial and error.

I purchased some of the new "flamespitters" from Brickforge, received them yesterday. Great little weapons to add to colonial marines...except I bought the lime green versions. Don't know why I did that, got a little too excited I guess. Now I have to figure out how to save them, recolor them. I can spray them with black Krylon fusion, but I know it will chip off the handles.

Well, then don't spray the handle. ;-) I use Games Workshop or Revell Colors for mine. Black Flamespitters would be the best indeed, because of that handle problem.

Yeah, that's what I intend to do. :) Although I suppose that the "rust" colored version might be closest to the brown bess the movie versions were painted.

Bess brown/olive drap - that is the question. I've painted mine in olive drap and like them the way they are. Maybe I should paint a few of them in bess brown too, just to check how that looks.

Heck yeah, whichever color works for you. :) I actually don't like reworking my LEGO creations too far, part of the fun (for me) is seeing how close I can come to a finished figure or vehicle without having to resort to repainting, filling seams with bondo and dremeling stuff off.
