The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

In the US, you can buy a real Thompson for either $1200 or $1800 depending on the barrel length. The 10in barrel needs a special permit. You cannot cut down a shotgun; BIG No NO...

I'm looking at using a deac M1A1 for my Hero PR next year, so the parts list/exploded views will come in very handy.

Bookmarked that site. 8)

not totally True.

So long as you do the paperwork First, you CAN cut down a shotgun. However it is then Considered a DD (destructive Device)

There is a form aviable From the Atfe that lets you Contruct a new, or modify and Exsisting One.

Some hoops, Some paymetns, and a wait time to get form back, but Totally legal.

sidenote: i really wouldnt recommend this however. While it would be nice to have a tottally accurate 'hero" weapon, its not the sort of thing id take to a convetion (or that would make it in the door at some con's). In addition i'd worry about overall safety. Theres also still legal concerns, while the Atf will most likely approve you, they've recently been getting into teh act of "checking in" from time to time, and i dont fully know the legal ramifications of mounting said shortbarreled shotgun, registered or not, to a shortbarreled Rifle (what a m1a1 with a "normal" barrel is considered)

sidenote2: also, the above does not hold true for Every State as well. Some States are More restrictive on weapons, regardless of size, so it will vary a bit, BE SURE TO READ UP FIRST!!.
Most info can be found here http://www.atf.gov/
But of course, Google can be your friend.

edit1: yeah, i registered for the first time just to rant :)

Rant away! Solid information is always more welcome than "My uncle's cousin's half brother's girlfriend twice removed said..." ;)

If you're not sure if your state will allow you to own a machine gun, a short barreled rifle, a destructive device, or a silencer look here:

http://www.westernfirearms.com/wfc/default?set=06

also please keep in mind after you get the paperwork back, have a Class 2 gunsmith do the work. Hacksaws are the fastest way to get into trouble.....
