The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Saw this thread and it got me thinking:

http://www.therpf.com/f9/prometheus-doo ... el-197982/

If these boards really are this cheap - is it possible to create one for the motion tracker?

With the touchscreen feature being so cheap, you could program it with all sorts of fun stuff - on operator manual, schematics, etc.

I daresay the app programmers here (like DemonNite) could achieve something.
C++ seems to be what that one was programmed in...

It's all electrickery-magicky stuff to me, though... I just shoot stuff!!

Willie Goldman.

I made a MT just a couple of weeks ago. My electro Geek friend HunFoxy (Can be found on Aliens Legacy) used a chep PNA for the electronics. We found a Blue Panther PNA on Ebay with a non functioning GPS reciever for 10USD. A brand new one cost around 40-50 USD.
It has a Windows C OPsystem. all you need to do is to copy a .WMV file on the SD card.
The PNA has a basic Windows media player, so it is realy simple. Just double tap on the file and view full sreen. It has a speaker so it has the sound effects as well.
And we already watched the ALIENS movie on a Motion Tracker. Yust because the PNA can do it and its fun :D

If you need i can post pictures and videos, Just ask. I'll be more than happy to help.

You could program the SatNav to respond to input, then?

Bump.

What would it take for an updated kit from one of the electronics guys?

I really like Erv's use of the compass/moving display.

I really enjoy the interactive feel of my SD studio locator, wishing the same for the tracker.

I'm hoping to make a MT with a working display too, so if anyone is able to come up with something I would be interested. The search for an LCD screen that fits well is getting tough because very few are a 4:3 aspect ratio any more.

I reached out to Erv, he is interested... but his spare time is tight with saber electronics.

Stay tuned.

I like the hyperdyne, but seams out of date with current electronics. Plus it is cost prohibitive for the majority.

What about a kickstarter of sorts, to get the ball rolling for affordable electronics for people? I imagine a few of us would chip in. I know I would when I could.

Something has to happen.

I'm willing to donate some time to the cause.

Best location for the detection sensor(s) could be below the metal mesh in the front.

Any movement on this? Strangely enough I was looking for my own way to do this too after reading what Plecter did. Oddily enough, I also posted on the raspberry pi forums thinking I was ahead of the curve :P hah.

I posted a couple days in their tech support to see what they think. Glad I wasn't the only one who thought of Adafruit too.

They have cheap GPS units, but it looks like folks here found even cheaper alternatives on ebay too. Let's revive this! Doing all the research I can in the meantime. I have some catching up to do!

Kind of related: according to one my friends, the Hyperdyne kits aren't made anymore; the screen's been discontinued by the company. The site does say they're only "Temporarily out of Stock", though.

In the meantime, has anyone made a slide of the MT screen to put in the HAMA viewer as a short term solution?

Is there somewhere to research or find small, cheap LCD screens? An electronics website or something?
