The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Started on the painting detail. Using an 'antique jade' colour, stippled on with a small block of foam. I'll probably go back over the highest sections with an 'almost white' colour to finish. I know the SA aliens were brown but they always looked 'greeny' to me.

That looks great!

I was going to say "that looks mint" but then I worried it would be taken literally as a comment on the color. 8)

I think the green looks really cool and will give your Xeno some personality.

Probably the filters used and the lack on decent lighting on most [all] of the alien shots

More work today . . . Decided to get the hands done

Started by trimming and sanding off the seams -

Then painting with plastidip -

The ends of the fingers have been padded out with foam. Unfortunately my fingers are not that long, otherwise i would have been more popular with the girls in school. I decided i wanted the hands to have proper nails too. So i cut some from 2mm ABS -

And heated them over the cooker to make them convex -

After that it was a case spraying silver and supergluing them onto the hands -

Then lastly i painted the hands in the same style as the head; with 'Lincoln green' as a highlight base and 'estruscan red' as a dirty finish. Aliens weren't clean, right ?

Tail bit looks like it's working nicely.

Not so sure about the shorts though.

Yea it sits quite nicely and doesn't pull down on the back too much. I've had a run around the house in it (as you do) and the chest strap didn't seem to ride at all.

I obviously still need to paint the yoke for the back section and the belt. I'm also going to split an old vest up the middle and attach that on the inside of the chest/back section. It'll make it a lot easier to get on as the latex really 'grabs' at the fabric of the undersuit when you put it on. This will also give me a firmer anchor point to attach the sturnum section onto (i'm going for a velcro/popper closure on the chest). Lastly then i'll be making up some extra latex ribbed sections to cover the shoulder straps and bridge any gaps on the chest.

I also started attaching the sections to the undersuit last night

I'd say it'll be done in a fortnight :)

I've still got to add the same paint-style that i've used on the head/hands/tail to the rest of the parts as, at the moment they are still black. I also want to make up more latex pieces to add to the suit to cover some of the fabric gaps. I'm not going to fully latex the suit because that makes it a lot worse to wear without looking too much better. I will however latex parts of it.

I'm also going to cut the bottom out of the hands and glue them onto a pair of gloves. Being latex and norrow at the wrist it makes them very difficult to put on by yourself. If possible i like to keep all my costumes so that i can put them on fully by myself. Once you've got one hand on the other is damn near impossible to put on.

But, yea. On the whole im happy with it. I've put it in for clearance with the 'G' so hopefully i'll be able to wear it at any events with either yourselves or 'them'.

Hope you all like it. Definately one of the more challenging builds i've done

Awesome! Looks great.

Let me know if it passes clearance - the Alien requirements are pretty fluid in my experience.

When we get together, I'll tell you my saga of even enquiring about submitting for clearance. It was delightful.

Delightful enough for me to make substantive changes to Abe to knowingly avoid any chance of passing Garrison clearance. Even without the collar.

some people like to be in the G and get clearance some don't, i don't have an issue with anyone for their personal tastes and views, i've been on drops with both groups and found pretty much everyone to be friendly and i've enjoyed it, my comment about the 'clearance dig' is totally tounge in cheek, please take it as such

Sorry this has been cold for so long. I tend to flit and flat in and out of forums so forgive me . . .

So 'im going back over the suit an changing any bits that i wasn't 100% happy with at the beginning. I've done quite a bit so i'll update the thread in stages

Firstly i wanted to add the forearm 'bones' that doesn't come with the kit. I've made these by hand with foam and a few other bits -

By using bottle-tops in the ends it makes a 'socket' that can be screwed on/off for transport. There is a popper in the thin end that attached to the sleeve. Thanks to someone i can't remember from the 'xeno hive' for the idea.

Also i've finished the mammoth task of adding animatronics to the head. This was a biiiiiiig job . . . I won't bore you with the details. I've shared this on FB before, but for those that don't know me on there -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqIX3YumYvE

More to come . . .
