Hey everyone,

So my good friend Anthony is working on a gunner build, and we were lucky enough to get in touch with Akos. Akos and his friends have built an amazing version of the SG, out of a type of plastic foam (his thread is still up, with more info on it). Akos was great to deal with, and the level of detail is fantastic.

What my friend and I can't get over is the weight of it...which isn't much! It's built around some PVC pipe, with the foam bits attached to it. When I say foam it's almost a light plastic. Still very strong for the weight.

The packaging was great too...lots of bubble wrap and none of the parts were damaged. +1 for Hungary's regular postal system lol

We put it together and will start the painting on Monday...can't wait!

Unassembled at Akos' shop.

Re-assembled in my living room, with a happy owner lol (probably the same face I made when I got my PR or armour)

So...where do we get the headset and eye piece for the gunner? I think we'll be making our own armour, using Reaper's fantastic CAD drawing. He's also set for BDU pants, belt and drop-down holster. I think he may try to make his own steadicam arm out of monitor arms too...but we'll see. A few more items and he'll be good to go.

Having held it myself...I want to say easily under 10 lbs...maybe 5-7 lbs?

So I just weighed it on my regular scale, and it didn't budge it...probably cuz it's cheap, but honestly there is no way it's 10 lbs...I'd really say it was closer to 5 lbs than 10 lbs.

Good luck with the headset, some of those pieces are getting mighty rare ;) Contact "marsattacks" here on the forums for the eyepiece, he reproduces them.

Wow....you did a great job on that!!!

You might consider to make edges of the MG42 receiver more rounded if possible....could improve the look even further.
Please make sure to post more pics once painted and weathered.

VERY inspirational man!

Just to clarify I didn't make those, just tweaked the original file to be more friendly :)

So did you buy the SG from him as a kit? Looks like a great option for a cheaper SG.
How sturdy is it?

Well thanks for the tweaking ;)

Well the SG comes kind of unassembled for packing, then you just attach (permanently if you want) the components together once it arrives.

It's so light, it feels like it's fragile, but it's not...it's pretty strong for the weight, but again it is so light it gives the impression that it's delicate. But you can move it around no problems, and I would say you could drop it and not damage it either.

Magnus: I'm really glad to see that the postal service did as good of a job as I had hoped, and that it sustained no damage. It's great to see that my work put that smile on Anthony's face! I guess that's a review in itself!

I'm also really grateful for all the positive comments! It really reinforces my drive to keep doing what I love, and hopefully expand this to allow me to cater to my fellow marines! I've got a lot of things in the works that I'll be sharing with you all soon enough, which I plan to compile into a single thread for ease of navigation and to allow me to more easily answer any questions you might have. In addition, due to an influx of free time, I'm now actively considering accepting commissions of my work, as I would love to play a part in ensuring my fellow marines are able to have the gear that they desire!

With regards to the weight, the smartgun was designed with flexibility in mind. To be precise, I envisioned it as something of a 'blank canvas' upon which one is able to add to truly make it their own. To this end, there are many compartments in the smartgun to allow for electronics to be added. In addition, by simply placing a metal tube of the corresponding diameter and weight into the barrel and gluing it in place, the spine of the gun will be reinforced, as well as providing it with a that 'heavy gun' feel! I contemplated adding the weight myself, but I decided it would detract from the flexibility of the smartgun (in the event that someone desires a lighter, easier to handle/transport build). Finally, I assume that leaving the option to you would be more preferable to an increased shipping cost due to weight. If you want any pointers on how to do so, feel free to ask me!

Thank you very much again!
Akos

Hi Akos,

Not just a smile on Anthony's face!
Well done. :)

Sounds promising what you could do with it and the option to start and leave it light weighted if prefered.
Hope to see you in HU.

Frank
