The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi folks...

I got lucky this week again...

Chatting to a lad I know who deals in militaria and surplus, I mentioned me collecting gear for a Colonial Marines impression... He had no idea I was in the know... We started to discuss the construction of the Pulse Rifle... Listing off the parts I said it was my aim to put together an all metal PR prop around an Airsoft Thompson and 870... I mentioned the SPAS cage.

I was informed that his father had pulled a SPAS cage and some castings of shortened pump grips from a skip full of Aliens junk at Pinewood Studios in the '80s... He said he still has the cage, he thought, in one of his lock ups full of gear. He offered it to me for £20...

He dropped it off for me today. Granted, it's not minty mint and needs some cleaning up... But it's all there... Just a little worse for wear from being stored in a garage for 25 years plus...

I have absolutely no reason to doubt him as to where it came from. How a SPAS cage would end up in a skip at Pinewood and not recycled by BAPTY is beyond me... But he's no liar and he's hardly made a killing on it for £20...

Here's a picture of it - apologies for the flash...

Now all I need is a deck of cards... And all the other bits for a PR...

Anyone doing decent, sturdy pump handles?

WOW. Incredible snag.

As for how it came to be, I'll take a stab at a guess:
His dad said he found it with casting of the shortened pump grip right? Perhaps he found part of the stash that was used in molding of the stunt weapons. Even if they were solid lightweight blocks for the stunt pulses, its makes sense to me they would still want to cleanly mold each part separate as opposed to tackling an entire constructed pulse in one go.

Perhaps you have the spas cage used in that phase of the stunt prop molding process? Could also explain why babtys didnt recycle it in some way. If they were focused on recovering the hero pulses, perhaps the parts dedicated to molding of stunt props slipped past them.

Just a theory!

(The cooler theory is that its from a screen used hero pulse that a staff member tried to sneak out piece by piece but they picked "too good" of a hiding spot that he never recovered and it was taken out with the trash. Now its yours!)

If it was screen used or used as a master it would have the ejection port etc cut out. Still a damn good find though!

I had hoped it was going to be ready cut for me... That WOULD have been a pukka find...

It is a bit of a mystery as to why its not cut if it was from Aliens / Pinewood but if it was from there then there could be many explanations I suppose.

Apparently, none of the recovered pump handles lasted as they were all so flimsily cast...

Like you say, it doesn't really matter where it came from... It was a bargain...

There's no real provenance... And it's not been adapted...

Nice theory bigbisont but the stunt pulse rifles were all one piece (or pretty much 2 halves anyway) and moulded from an already assembled PR.
