The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Haven't been posting or chatting much in the last week or so...or doing much of anything requiring the use of thumbs. typing is painful, and even holding a phone is excruciating after a while.

Long story short Monday, I was trying to pierce/remove the metal seal on a gallon of thinner with a screwdriver, the thing glanced off the metal and went into my hand just above my thumb.
Such a terrific amount of pain for such a small wound, hardly bled much at all. Yet somehow the pain seemed to me disproportionate to the injury, leading me to believe I damaged the joint or struck a nerve.
Stubborn fool that I am I soldiered on when the pain abated, but the next day my thumb and forefinger WOULD NOT MOVE. I consulted my healthcare practitioner and was given pain meds and anti inflammatories.
I stopped working for a while and laid low (ruined my 4th of July plans BTW) .

It's fine now (or as fine as can be expected considering) so now I'm trying to catch up to nearly a full weeks worth of lost work.

I have some neat things on the burner and will be posting accordingly.

Also, I've been informed that my 'Matsucorp' email is not performing as it should. If anyone needs me, use the PM system or the email associated with my Paypal if you know it.

And to keep on topic for the ready line...here is a picture of a pulse rifle..:D

Ouch. Glad to hear you are on the mend. Take care of yourself. Sucks that your 4th of July plans were scuppered :(

Thanks for the kind words, I'm less concerned about my hand than I am about the work I need to catch up with. :D

I now know the folly of stabbing wildly and metal objects with a screwdriver while holding said object steady with your other hand.

The correct method would be to use an awl of some sort, holding it with one hand and striking it with the palm of the other...so simple, so safe, so smart....ahh sod it...that's just not my style! :P

You should see me trimming hedges with a Samurai sword!

I had the same "Oopsie" experience while working on Trenches. I had to cut some Zip ties off something, and grabbed my handy X-Acto knife and started hacking away. A second later I distinclty remember thinking, "Maybe I should put down the knife and grab those scissors on the table right there and use them."

As soon as I finised that thought, the knife cut through the Zip tie, and buried itself in my knuckle.

It beld A LOT. And it was definitely one of those cuts that needed a stitch or two to close. But being on a deadline, and knowing that a trip to the Emergency Room would take 6 hours at least, I had to apply pressure and get back to work.

So for the entire shoot, and even until now, I can't straighten that finger all the way easily, and every so often, it stiffens up and I have to, carefully, crack the knuckle to relieve it.

So the moral of this story is... never buy anything that has Zip ties on it!

Superglue my man, it'll stitch you up really professional like.

Always keep a fresh tube in the med kit. A bottle or two of cheap saline solution for wound clearing helps too (in addition to standard med kit fare).

That is assuming everyone has a med kit handy at home or in the vehicle....right...
