The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

This is a new one - it looks like there is going to be a hotel convention covering general sci-fi, film, science etc at The Renaissance Hotel, Heathrow on 9th-11th August

I've not heard about a general residential convention in the UK for a very long time, but if you don't understand the implications then it means proper intimate panels on a wide range of topics (http://nineworlds.co.uk/track), the ability to retreat straight to a hotel room for changing/showering and partying/drinking in costume!

I know it's close to that other residential convention in Atlanta (and if you can't make it to that one, this might be a good alternative ...), but I think we need to give this a shot and help make it a success.

I'm signed up. I'm waiting to hear back from the organisers about hotel rooms and weapons policy.

We were considering it, but there are no guests that really fire up the enthusiasm for Sarah, so we will probably concentrate on doing the Cardiff Comic Con at the end of August while everyone else is playing in Atlanta.

Looks like we're a go for this - we won't be getting any free entry but I'm hoping I can get a cheaper rate on hotel rooms.

The organisers sound like they have their poo together, and we should be OK with Pulse Rifles etc in the hotel provided we are on best behaviour and follow the carry rules.

Anyone else? I dunno if AJ and Abe could drink an upscale hotel's bar dry on our own!

Just rechecked the website for this - apparently they will start selling day tickets sometime this month. No idea about price though

If they do, i could do the Saturday, as i'd like to support this.

Rumour is there will be a price-rise for tickets this THURSDAY.

I'm going there to have fun and do a load of stuff - personally, I should be quite busy in the day with the science and skepticism, My Little Pony and a few other tracks - Abe may have an official appearance to make at the recording of a science podcast on the Saturday and the Bronies want him at the cheese disco Friday night... but I'm not spending whole days in costume even if I can.

I have talked to the organisers - they have confirmed that rifles etc are OK inside the hotels, but note that convention is in two hotels which are across the road from each other: It is imperative that weapons are properly covered when crossing the road or outside (this might be tricky for Matt cos he has a huge one). They also specifically requested that weapons are not pointed at people at any time; the hotels will be 90% convention-goers but there will be "normals" there too.

I have a room with two beds. I will have one blowup mattress in my car.

As far as I know, readyline is:

Pug50 - Friday night-Sunday (if I can "Work from Home", I might try to be at the hotel for checkin time)
Gunner2163 - Friday night-Sunday Morning
Tonystorm - ?
CrashDown - Saturday

And the tickets are already £40 plus :-( are they putting them up even more G?
